in The Myth of Risky Startups on Instigator Blog
Ben... you are right. Start-ups are risky but so is life. And the risk can and should be managed. I mean... some start-ups are riskier than others.
I've done a few and I wouldn't have missed the experience for anything.

in Is 30 Too Old To Be An Entrepreneur? on Instigator Blog
Interesting article Ben... I started my first business when I was 14. Not much, just retouching old photos. I started my last company four years ago at 41. I've had several businesses in between.
Age is all in your head (and your hair). My dad retired at 45. He's been old ever since... no disrespect. He just stopped trying new things. I think being an entrepreneur keeps you young and in that sense, youth is a requirement for being an entrepreneur.

Ben,
Thanks for playing the game. I really like the bite-size chunks concept too. I need to remember that when I write. Great post.

in Be More Productive By Taking A Break on Instigator Blog
Ben,
Just a thought. Coffee (or red bull) is not a substitute for a break. Tried it and it doesn't work.
Distraction is a real problem for me. Dawud, I agree you do need to turn off your feed reader and email client. I just get distracted looking for the close button.

in 10 Things They Need To Teach In Highschool on Instigator Blog
Jeff's comment resonates with me. Leaving all of the great stuff on this list to a teacher is certainly inadequate.
One thing I would add that I don't think I see in your list is "relationships". Certainly high school age kids could benefit from something more than just sex ed.

in How Do You Hire The Right People? on Instigator Blog
Ben, I totally agree with what you are saying. One question. How would this apply to hiring minimum wage service industry staff? One of our ventures is a new cafe in a small but growing town. The pool of potential hires is pretty limited. I struggle with the process when the starting wage is $11 per hour.

in Does Multitasking Really Make You More Productive? on Instigator Blog
Ben and Steve, tried the loud music idea yesterday. Maybe it was the wrong music but I found I worked faster. I can't tell yet whether I was more focussed, but it definitely had an effect.

in Does Multitasking Really Make You More Productive? on Instigator Blog
Ben, I'm wondering about your second point. To me loud music seems like it would be more distracting. The words would catch in my head and then I would be using brainpower to try to sing  I will however give it a try and see. Thanks

in The Best Headlines Are Not Just Written For Google or Digg on Instigator Blog
Ben, you got that right. The sense of "gaming" or "beating" the system is what really drives me up the wall. If it's for people, then keep the focus there. Digg and Google are only there to help people find what they are really looking for.

Ben, this is one of the best posts I've read on the subject. Finally something that makes sense. I'm really getting tired of the headline for Digg or Google approach. Thanks for putting it all back into proper perspective
