in What would Facebook look like if it sold out to ads? Click here to see… on Futuristic Play by @Andrew_Chen
Facebook is leaving a huge piece of ad $$ on the table by not having an ad unit on their login page (www.facebook.com). The traffic to that page is currently un-monetized. I don't think one ad unit on the login page will cause that much of a difference in terms of user experience.

in Are prospective investors killing your vision or fueling your fire? on This is going to be BIG!
As a CEO, you should always keep an eye on the "big picture", while executing tactically on your "small steps". I think the two are not mutually exclusive - think big, but take small steps to get there.

As for "quick flip" vs "game-changer", it depends on the market you are in. Path101 is in a huge market with lots room for innovation. Your investors should take more of a "long-term view" with Path101.

in Why your friends list get polluted over time on Futuristic Play by @Andrew_Chen

As Facebook continue to grow, each user's friends list will also grow, and it will get to the point of "friend pollution" you described. This is inevitable. How to deal with this eventuality with new product innovation is key.

in Do you ever say, “MySpace is sooo ugly?” This blog’s for you… on Futuristic Play by @Andrew_Chen

Andrew, I think you really nailed the difference between MySpace and Facebook - entertainment vs utility; creator-friendly vs viwer-friendly.

To Mark's comment - "wasting time" equals "kill time". sometimes we have nothing particular to do and just need to find something fun to do to get pass the time. So without any real goal in mind, we are exploring. This is when we need more choices to be presented to us because we don't know what to search for.

Kristen,

What do you mean by "while Facebook’s seems to have fallen a tad short of expectations."? I think the jury is still out on this.

in Risk is a Function of Perception and Approach on This is going to be BIG!
Risk is relative. To some one like you and me (single, no children, not much financial obligations, relatively liquid), yeah, the risk is pretty low. This means that right now is the best time for you to do a startup - when you don't have too much risk. Later, when you get married and have children, you won't have the flexibility you have right now.

in Oh “SNAP” = Social Network Application on Futuristic Play by @Andrew_Chen

great blog! Well said about Social Network Apps. I also like how you articulated user-gen-interaction versus user-gen-content.
