I totally agree about content....
The one thing im most afraid of is being a victim of my own success. if there is a lot of noise, its going to be hard to control and people will leave...
that is my next focus, removing noise, and keeping conversations targetted

Awesome offer, and if this was 12 months ago, and the product was RTM, then 100% yes!
As you know, the planning, dev, etc has been going on for a long time..... 12 months ago, we didnt have 2010, and even at this point its not ready yet.....

Who knows, maybe we can work together to create a community platform on SharePoint for future version of SPoint.... I would be crazy not to consider it....but for now.... for many of the reasons ive talked about, its not quite possible...

One very important point people often miss (and this is part of my role as an architect as well), is that its not always about what is the best product....
Its what is the best product for YOU.... Yeah, features are important, but so is cost, organisational fit, time to production, support, etc etc etc

What im getting at is.... yes, im a SharePoint MVP, and yes, 2010 is awesome, but is it the right platform for me to run this community? well, for one, I cant afford it..... The great thing about open source is that its free, and thats great for a site thats self funded....

so that begs the question:
Im creating a site, in my own time, huge amount of man hours, supporting a community, hopefully touch a large number of sharepoint users....

Am I doing the SharePoint community a service or dis-service by creating SPoint?

Ill leave it up to you guys to answer :)

You make a point, even if in a sarcastic way. I think the point is reducing the overall footprint. eg: Going virtual doesnt eliminate carbon emission, but is a step in the right direction. Taking your TV off standby mode wont stop global warming, but might help slow it down. etc etc
