The venue is called Musicon4. I posted part of the email I received. I'm not sure if I am going.

Dear Friends,

What more is there to say, but:

ambeR Rubarth @ Music on 4!!!

Even I find it hard to believe that this is true.

You will not find this concert posted anywhere… otherwise we would have a thousand people here… she played two sold out shows at the City Winery recently… and the day after our show, she is off on her European tour. How spectacular is this?

Here is her official bio and press photo:

Amber Rubarth's musings on life are delightful in their innocence with a depth wise beyond her years. Her song "Washing Day" (co-written with Adam Levy) was chosen as 1st place in the International Songwriting Competition by her musical hero Tom Waits. Her songs have attracted enthusiastic praise from NPR's All Songs Considered, The Huffington Post, BBC Radio, Acoustic Guitar Magazine, and a Sun Studio Session now airing nation-wide on PBS.

At 21 years old, Amber decided to quit her career as a chainsaw sculptor in Nevada in order to pursue music (and what a mean chainsaw she wielded! See below! – Ihor). She taught herself guitar, started playing open mics, and within a few short years began touring non-stop throughout the US, Europe and Japan, soon being invited to share the stage with such greats as Loudon Wainwright III, Colin Hay, Martin Sexton and Lisa Loeb. She now composes for films as well, most recently writing the music with Paul Brill for the highly acclaimed Sundance Film Festival winner "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work." She is also one half of Brooklyn's buzz band The Paper Raincoat, an iTunes Indie Spotlight feature.

Re: Rachael Sage and Michelle Citrin at Joe’s Pub

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. Sorry to put this here but I don't know how to connect generically. This is indirect but follow me. I am a fan of Mark O'Connor, especially his swing music (as close as I have heard to Stephane Grapelli). I received an email from his website about what he is doing lately. He gave a week of master classes at the Berklee College of Music (Boston?). In the article, there is a reference to Sierra Hull as a student there. I am planning on seeing Mark O'Connor next week at the Blue Note with a new jazz trio. I am not familiar with the other people playing with him or what type of music he will play. Have a happy New Year.

http://www.berklee.edu/news...

Re: ambeR Rubarth at NAU NYC

FYI
I just noticed that ambeR will be playing at the Fairfield Theatre on January 17, 2010.

http://webmail.aol.com/3010...

Re: Sierra Hull in Madison Square Park

I also so the show but my experience was a little different. Congratulations on getting a parking space. That, in itself, was a singular achievement. I must have come later than you because I could not find a seat. I sat in the park area just behind. I believe you are very kind in your descriptions. I too did not like the opening act. I am not a person who listens to words much. As a singer, I did not find her very interesting. I was also not impressed with Sierra Hull. I only stayed for about half the show. Maybe my expectations were off. I thought she would play more mandolin. From the little I heard, it is clear she is very talented. The banjo/dobro player got most of the solos. The guitar player is a very good flatpicker. I was somewhat disappointed with the singing. I wasn't crazy about her voice but that is always a subjective matter. I found the harmonies a little peculiar. In typical bluegrass harmony, there is always a high tenor voice. As a female, that is where she sang but there was also a high male voice. I just didn't like the blend. No food issues this time? You didn't stand on line at the Shake Shack for an hour? I almost didn't write this response as I am not sure that you want this blog to countermand anything you are trying to communicate.

Re: Red Molly and The Nields at Joe’s Pub

That's definately one of their better songs. I listened to both and the one with Susan Werner, though the sound quality was poor, definately had something with the fourth harmony, almost orchestral.

You're in luck, the schedule for sierra Hull says it is at 3:00 PM.

Re: Red Molly and The Nields at Joe’s Pub

Just a note. Sierra Hull is playing at Madison Square Park on Saturday. It is free. I have seen Red Molly. Their harmonies are very good but they don't excite me. I love Abbie Gardner's dobro playing. She has a monthly dobro pairing at Googie's Lounge.

Re: City Slickers Bluegrass Festival

Thanks for the infor on Sierra Hull, I might look into her. I don't listen to that much bluegrass these days but I did listen to a lot in the late 70s and early 80s. Since you mentioned the Seldom Scene, their album, "Live at the Cellar Door", is a terrific album that everyone interested in bluegrass should own (along with the first "Old and in the Way" album)

Re: I am not a hardware guy

For future repairs, I have one word for you. I specifically watched Wright on Bill Moyers and thought him to be a very bright, learned intelligent man. Then I heard about his other actions over the weekend and could only surmise that Wright is striking back at either Obama, the media or both. Clearly Wright feels he has been harmed by all the attention he has received. He is also politically savvy enough to know that his actions will negatively affect Obama.

Re: Jerry Douglas at BB King

I lived in Park Slope for almost ten years after graduating from Pratt Institute.
