That is the beginnings of a handmade spinning wheel. I am going to make my own yarn yo! Recycled materials including reclaimed wood from a pallet, the bicycle wheel, and all kinds of odds and ends. My grandad is helping me - yay for his knowledge and experience - and we are currently in stage two of our prototype. We are just going by pictures - we are too awesome for plans!

I can't disagree at all with that assessment. Ideally once you have the road map considered and start prototyping hopefully some of the design principles have been sorted out.

Would be great if you did another one of these with a Mic the audio is a challenge to hear and audio is everything in one of these. Would also be great if you could do a longer session with more Agile specific examples from a-z as opposed to the high level change of mindset type stuff.

What I have seen in real practice is the Agile/Scrum process being imposed from the development side to the design side which is not the way to begin. I have not seen a good implementation of the design process in the Agile model yet, this could just be my bad luck. I believe if Agile/Scrum is the way to go for the design process then it needs to be formalized and have it's own early stage sprints and be clearly defined. Arch/Development sprints should not begin till after the design process is at the very least more solidified else it will be a disaster.

But again my experience could have been an anomaly, I wish I could find a best practice map or set of guidelines that lays out an end to end process where agile design and dev can truly reach that productivity panacea.

Wish I would have found this post and sooner, I just completed a project where the dev team was using a scrum approach and it was absolute chaos for the design team. It was a brutal lesson in what not to do, I look forward to hearing how all are working some sort of agile ux/design process into their workflow.

There is a ton I left out of this post and I just had to stop. I started it Sunday morning and couldn't go to sleep until I at least finished it. This is not my typical posting topic but gee, it's another one of those things that drive me nuts.

My brain went in so many directions - including the China sweatshops - crummy materials full of lead - consumer protection that kills future home based business - I mean really, it could so easily be a book but my final thoughts led me back to my latest fit of the dumbing down of America so that might just be my next post should I get my facts checked.

Thanks for reading and offering your thoughts. I always appreciate and value them!

Great post although I must admit I did an immediate find for the "C" word, nope didn't find it.

CHINA, lets face it most if not all big box stores are nothing more than a pipeline of Chinese made products sold to us. What does that mean? Cheap borderline slave labor sub standard products for us to purchase at an "affordable" price.

On the flip side this poses a dilemma for gifted designers who want to sell products to as many people as possible. For them they need to think about creating mass produced items in a cradle to cradle way, is that even possible in the big box business model?
