Yes! YES! I'd listen.

I'd download to .mp3 and listen in my car while commuting. I get LOTS of info this way. I'm getting used to the computer voicing thing too (initially, I rejected it).

Thanks and all the best. Great to have met you last month at the WCF in Seattle,

Dave

Re: ASK: How do I hire a community manager?

Jake,
We're starting out small and wanted to find a local digital native person familiar with Social Networking, Marketing, Facebook and at least a little "real world" post-college experience.

Like you mention, a recruiter was beyond the budget for us. As well as a even a mildly seasoned "social networking" professional.

Some leg work on Facebook surfaced 4 candidates to interview. Our new person starts in two weeks. Her profile was open and I was able to look back at old wall posts, her comments on friends', etc... The personality she presents online was in-line with the personality of our company. The personality/chemistry mix being paramount, we figure her natural personality is the intrinsic un-trainable aspect and the rest is trainable items she can learn.

I'm hearing the phrase "Poaching" more. I like it! Means we need to be working hard to "get the right people on the bus and in the right seats" and giving 'em lots of love in all the right places.
All the best,
Dave

Re: Shame on you, American Airlines.

Jake,

My condolences on your grandmother's passing and cheers to your consideration of her wishes and removing the photo lest you be smacked upside the head. Sounds like she and my grandmother went to the same grandmothering school.

On that note, I was speaking to my 83 yo grandmother today and let her know that I'd be making airline reservations this weekend for my family of four (Memphis to Phoenix and we might be able to meet her there). Anyhow, resultant of how they treated you, my reservations will not be with them. I'll be sure to follow up with whoever we go with. It won't be American Airlines, or is it AA.
Dugg and Stumbled (via @CBrogan 's tweet).

Re: Facebook Will Merge Your Group And Page To Make Poups!!

I've been putting off tackling this beast for a few pre-Nov07 clients. Thanks for sharing the great news. There's that gamble in being an early adopter in an evolving world, but I guess it's the way life is just going to be from now on. Beta life. Cheers and great to have seen you again at SxSW!

Re: Baby Updates

I'm sure this post is getting ready to be buried in a flurry of updates about Lucas. Congrats to you both. Rest well. Looking forward to info later. I don't like the way many of them treat people like flocks of sheep that'll mindlessly hoof-it wherever directed. Here are two exceptions that don't readily appear to bias their information with their opinions (unless expressly stated):

http://www.web-strategist.com
Jeremiah Owyang - Is a top notch aggregator. Many people follow him and he's able to get nice sample of opinions and sentiment quickly and shares his findings. He is a community builder, and very knowledgeable.

http://conniebensen.com
Connie Bensen - A community management ace, Connie's blog is a plethora of information and her writing is precision. She's most personable, very busy in high demand, and I've referred to her as my 'Social Media Angel' at least a couple of times.

Re: Ning Asserts Itself - Will Users Suffer?

Nice read. This is an interesting issue. Still worlds of precedents to be set in these evolving spaces.

In the DIY Social Network space, Ning has become the defacto 'do-better-than' reference not because it's great, but moreso because of their users lack of engagement (attributed to features and interface).

I would imaging that Widget Labs feels more of an opportunity they took with their direction than maintaining an allegiance to Ning. The fine print and available legal resources available lead me to think a settlement would result.

I look forward to seeing how this pans out.

Re: BREAKING: Zuckerberg Apologizes for the Mess that was Beacon Rollout

Thanks Mari. I followed that link and looked long and hard at that checkbox and left it just like it is. It's good to know there's that option now. They missed an opportunity here to a more direct. The lemon logo is great, but so would have someone chugging the drink. I made no connection with the product. At least one recipient of the email (I sent to 3 people) thought it was spam and didn't open.

Gordon:
We have two little girls... biased against this one. Not an f-bomb issue in itself, just the young deliverer. I know polarization is key (I'm just on the wrong side of this, but respect their boldness).

Power to the Penny:
This was great! They are here too:
http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=penn...
I looked around for someone making a video about taking penny's to OfficeMax with a hidden camera - no luck. ;-)

Bees:
This gets my vote! I appreciate the message and might even make me buy some of their ice cream for being such good stewards of the environment. (although the story is alarming!)

Re: You Suck at Social Media

Wonderfully, it is the People's platform. This is exactly
why these ranking sites are useless "who's who's".

There are now bots replying to bots out there. I reflect on Twitter sometimes as the Internet Darling. Very nice post. Great to have met you on Twitter, the first TweetUp, and at so many of the other Social Media and 2.0 events.

Re: Social Media Expedition

Beth,

Thanks for the great shouts here to the things we're doing and to Connie Bensen. She is on fire and as things begin to settle even more, so will the demand for her expertise: Community Management. When I say "we" above, I want to commend you for being of those that recognized the merits and value of Social Media early on. Times are changing quickly. Now, the market is asking for these services and so providers are trying to understand what it's about.

So, yay for you: Pioneer.

/Dave

Re: Lets Write 100 Conference Sessions WE Want to Attend

NeuroSociety - In some ways, those leveraging the current collective via social networking's tools are a subculture. What are the benefits this neurosociety realizes that mainstream doesn't. What happens to the new minority when the neuro SM collective becomes mainstream?

Maybe more of a conversation, than a presentation.
