in Second Life Killer Apps and Weak Ties on Phasing Grace
@ M - Ever since you mentioned that y'all wouldn't be making major changes in 2009 but live music was an important use-case to be worked on early next year, I've been passing that quote from metanomics around to get folks thinking about what they'd want to see, what changes they'd want made, and how best to address shortcomings and amplify strengths.
Currently in gathering phase. When I'm done scouring the blogs, forums, and jiras, I'll be going down my friends list asking folks directly. Then, it'll be time to make sense of all the responses.
Hopefully it'll be something y'all find useful.

Looking back at the lip-service that live music was given in 2007 and 2008 SLCC without any appreciable fundamental changes benefiting live music, I blew up big time on my site, but a friend requested that I hold my fire, spike the post for a bit, and see...
Pretty much jack squat. In fact, with Sidewinder's departure, steps backwards.
I noticed his comments on live music in the interview as well as the follow-up QAs, and this time around M has upped the expectations.
Or, some think, changed the smoke he's blowing up people's asses from a simple cedar wood to a fine hickory-maple mix.
Either way, 2010 is when some mystery workgroup is tasked with figuring out what changes can help and how to get them going as a use-case/killer-ap.
The seventh panel that KatyDid has on the boards for SLCC 2009 is one to address pretty much all M is opening the door for in that Metanomics appearance and hand him a list of the things that could make a difference.
I've been scouring the forums and blogs, asking people and pulling as much from archives as I can to make a pile of requests, demands, plans, and pleas people have had over the years.
And I've barely scratched the surface. I have a lot more to dig through.
But this is what I do, compulsively scan and scour and collect and analyze and model and ponder and then see who likes what and who hates what.
Crowdsourcing. Or, if you like other words that start with C, "community." Or Constructive Cacophony.
He's opened the door, now it's time to make sure he doesn't go all saucer-eyed at the horde that's gotten organized and is coming through it.

I posted on this subject on my own before I made the rounds to see what others who had a head start were saying.
It's dead on, and I suspect this is going to be the first link of the chain of this policy to break.

I think Apple really ought to consider development in SL in some way or fashion... my project is like Kennedy saying "I want to get man on the moon" and then rocking back and forth on his heels, whistling while reporters wonder if "the other thing" refers to "Getting them back alive." ;)
(I always thought "and that other thing" meant "banging Marilyn Monroe.")

in Protest in Second Life: the current Gaza conflict on The Metaverse Journal
Minor problem with "As Eureka summarises in her post, that’s exactly the perspective encouraged at the protest."
Where's the snapshots of the Israeli casualties or damage caused by Hamas to Israeli buildings and institutions?
Her response rings hollow.

I can see your point Crap. If the deaths of children were the focus, then if Israeli kids have died from Hamas' actions, that would have indeed fitted the context of the protest.

in My feelings about Second Life today on Torley Lives
You can extend the paragraph on "professional" journalists being ignorant of what they report on to all subjects.
Encountered this in my time as an IT manager at a television station, asked by technodummy reporters to interpret the rip-and-reads their equally ignorant producers were writing for them.
Only a few noticed the trend of technology rolling forwards and got on board, immersing in it instead of resisting it.
I worked my fingers to the bone writing up dirt-simple step-by-step procedures to perform basic tasks. Some appreciated the documentation, learned the basics, and built on that on their own, never afraid to hit the magical F1 key.
The others, well, one went so far as to throw my documentation in my face, and if that paper cut had cut just a quarter inch higher, I'd have lost an eye instead of getting a slash on my face.
There are the town criers of our age.
Those that get to know the subjects they report on, you listen to. And you engage them in conversation over their experience so you can learn from them.
Those that just beat the drums of panic and doom for the salespeople to stick between commercials, you just open your window and let the chamberpot fly.
If they duck the challenge of genuine direct engagement, preferring to remain one-way broadcast, well, it's pretty easy to shut that channel off and seek out the interactive and community-based information sources which can stand to defend its ever-flowing river of positions and reports.

Hrm... demonstrate menu option, then shortcut using mouse, and finally mention any keyboard shortcuts. Give folks options on which method of triggering the action they prefer, but don't let it slow down the tutorial to a crawl.

I've done a few for Stuart Warf's prim experiments, a few dirt-simple parodies of a certain person's very helpful tutorials, and Radar Masukami's been posting his explorations on the video side of SLPN recently.
Oh, and Zoe's been posting dogfight and flight videos.

As for your dubbing me Overlord, did we install the right chips in the backs of your necks? Title's "Idiot In Chief" ... Raz is the Martian Overlord, eh. (Speaking of which, we have a war between Windups and Martians scheduled at 6PM)
Oh well. Good start, looking forward to more.

in voice chat in SL on Chelpixie.com
I agree that voice within SL may divide those that can hear and those that can't.
But it *will* help with blending voice and text chat for live meetings. In the past, trying to pipe a skype conference into a parcel was a royal bear and the lag was horrific.
SL voice appears to reduce or eliminate that lag. Might make it possible for the 100 word story/short fiction recitals I've been pondering for months.
