Regarding the new URL, http://delicious.com currently redirects to the "dotted" URL. I'm guessing they'll use that (while maintaining the current URL for backward compatibility, of course).

in Segregating the Sexes on Art of Manliness
@Justin:

So, sites the celebrate manhood are misogynistic? Seriously? I'm trying to think of a word stronger than "ridiculous", but am coming up empty. I'll get back to you on that.

And I'd be interested to hear your ideas for this "gender identity segregation" solution - maybe we could round up all the children and show them pictures of scantily-clad adults and see which sparks more of an interest! That would be a totally healthy way to approach it. Maybe we could issue them all birkenstocks and a misguided sense of entitlement, too!

Your comment is a waste of bandwidth. Just sayin'. Kindly go hate dudes somewhere else, thanks!

in Twitter Looking Internally to Add Groups Functionality? on Stay N' Alive
Personally, I think that they'll probably see which of the third-party implementations they like and use it as inspiration (should the actually move forward with it). That said, their "radar" should pretty much just be "make the service reliable".

One could also make a compelling argument for not complicating a service that (aside from outages and other technical snafu's) has really done well *because it's so simple*. For that reason, I think adding groups would probably be a mistake.

Interesting to know that they're thinking about it, though.

Great post, cheers!

in Things I Do At Work I’m Not Proud Of on LifeDev
I spend a great deal of my workday on IRC with friends, as well as perusing Metafilter and, of course, Twitter. I manage to keep it on a somewhat-tight leash, but the worst distractions are the most accessibly distractions.

in Why I Started Punching Jerks Again on The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss
While I whole-heartedly agree that there are situations when a slap across the mouth is the most effective way to put an a**hole in his place, the author of the Esquire piece seems to swell with an odd sense of pride and satisfaction at what he's about to do.

Violence is, in my opinion, necessary sometimes - but also regrettable.

I'll dive back into my idealistic bubble now :)

in Off the Record: How Do You Like to Slack Off? on LifeDev
While I do enjoy the coffee (roasting, brewing, etc.) - my farting around is a multi-faceted beast!

Spending time with my family is the big one, but I also enjoy a good all-night hacking session. Oh, and I watch Law & Order like it's gonna be illegal tomorrow. :)

in MindMeister Makes Mind Mapping Marvelous on LifeDev
After actually doing some playing around with bubbl.us, I'm not as impressed as I was initially :(

The UI can get downright clunky and many of the features are definitely not bug-free yet. I look forward to trying out MindMeister whenever I get an invite or it becomes publicly available.

in GTD Refresher: The Next Action List Isn’t A Project Management System on LifeDev
In my opinion, having all of my next actions on a list in front of me is rather freeing. That way, I have more tasks to choose from and can make a better choice based on my context, energy, resources, etc.

It can definitely be overwhelming, probably because the list won't seem to get smaller as quickly, but at least nothing's living in your head (and you have fewer lists to maintain)!

Cheers!
