in Feingold Delays Vote on FISA Bill on Jack and Jill Politics
@anonymous: I'm amused by the reactionary response against Sen. Obama over FISA. Do you think that Russ Feingold, Chris Dodd (who also threatened a filibuster) and/or Harry Reid would be taking the measures they are without the tacit approval of the leader of their Party, Barack Obama? I don't.

I think there's strategy being played here and, while I'd love to see him out publicly campaigning against this, if he can sit on the sidelines, defeat telecom immunity and take some hits from the left, thus eliminating a potential critique from McCain in the general...

Works for me.

I believe that people have the right to own a gun. I just don't think that right's inherent in the Constitution.

Obama's meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus today. What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall in that meeting.

in The Official JJP - Let’s Just Enjoy This Moment Post on Jack and Jill Politics
While the Kennedy endorsement might have been significant in marginalizing the "black candidate" narrative, I don't think it was the most significant thing to come out of that endorsement.

That endorsement said to superdelegates, who ultimately decided the primary race, that it was okay to come off the bench and endorse Obama. It said to elected officials that you can go against the biggest brand name in the Party's recent history because the most celebrated brand name in the history of Democratic politics has your back.

in "This is Barack Obama’s party now." on Jack and Jill Politics
Obama had the votes today.

He could've taken what he wanted from Florida. He didn't.

He could've taken what he wanted from Michigan. He didn't.

He deferred to Party officials in both cases and I hope that uncommitted superdelegates from Michigan and Florida reward him for it.

Obama is, above all, a class act.

in ABOUT THOSE STATE BLOGGING CREDENTIALS on Jack and Jill Politics
I'm not sure I understand this post--mainly because it doesn't differentiate between the state blogger pool vs. the general blogger pool. Am I missing something here?

Pam Spaulding has the best post I've seen on this on PHB (including a conversation with Aaron Meyers, the guy in charge): My call from the DNCC on blogger credentials for the Denver convention.

in Tuesday Open Thread: Hi Everybody on Jack and Jill Politics
By now everyone's seen the clip from Good Morning America's interview with the Obamas re: the TN GOP, but just in case you missed the interview in its entirety:

The Obamas sit down with Robin Roberts

I must say, I love the way they love each other. So inspiring...

in Friday Open Thread - TGIF…whew… on Jack and Jill Politics
Just a reminder: early voting started yesterday in North Carolina. If you know folks in NC, start reaching out to them and urge them to vote early.

If they aren't registered (or haven't updated their registration), they can go register and vote during this early voting period.

D., sorry if that seemed to be one long response. Only the first paragraph was a response to you; the rest was just me ranting.

in ABC Has Lost Its Cotton-Pickin Mind / What Do We Do? (FCC REFORM!) on Jack and Jill Politics
D., imagine for a second if John McCain and the RNC got together and picked questions for a Democratic debate. That's pretty much what happened. And I'm not being entirely figurative here either: George Stephanopolous lifted one of his questions directly from Sean Hannity (per an interview with him earlier in the week).

I'm sorry--if you don't support Barack Obama, that's fine, but if you can't acknowledge that this debate was a farce and that it offended decency on so many levels, I don't even want to know you.

I want some kind of action to be taken. Certainly if David Schuster can be suspended from MSNBC for one comment, Stephanopolous and Charlie Gibson out to receive some punishment for this 50 minute sustained hit on Barack Obama AND for, in colluding with Fox News, perpetuating a media monopoly.

There must be something more that can be done.

in Monday Open Thread: Non-Election Discussion on Jack and Jill Politics
AC, Thanks for the rundown. It was awesome. I think a lot of feminists of color have stopped frequenting feminists blogs because of the hostility against female Obama supporters on them, so the story hasn't gotten around to WOC as much as I'd like.

in Open Thread —- What’s Up? on Jack and Jill Politics
Are middle class voters resentful? So says Bill Clinton:

“If [Republicans] could cut funding for Medicare, Medicaid, education, and the environment, middle-class Americans would see fewer benefits from their tax dollars, feel more resentful paying taxes, and become even more receptive to their appeals for tax cuts and their strategy of waging campaigns on divisive social and cultural issues like abortion, gay rights, and guns.” - Bill Clinton, saying pretty much exactly what Barack Obama’s been saying (and Sen. Clinton’s been attacking Obama for) in his 2004 memoirs, My Life

You can listen to Sen. Klobuchar's endorsement via the daily press conference call here.

My favorite part is when she says she's exercising her "independent judgment" in endorsing Obama. Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah.

The day after I first heard her repeat that "I've been vetted" meme, the NYT published this story: After Mining Deal, Financier Donated to Clinton.

Well, damn.

I was just responding to a post on a message board and said that I thought that the infighting among feminists was a battle between the second wave and the third wave. After I submitted my response, I said that I should do an entire post on the subject...

...but I'm not sure that I could do a better job than what Rebecca Walker's done here. Wow.

Thanks for sharing, JT.
