in In what way is slavishly copying something "original"? on Technovia
As I mentioned in the comment thread on Jaffe Juice, this wasn't about taking credit and financial gain at the expense of Hasbro....it was about Hasbro recognizing that old staid and irrelevant Scrabble was now relevant again....and being embraced by a thriving community.

They missed an opportunity to hire and/or acquire an authentic shot in the arm.

in It's All About The Benjamins on The Toad Stool by Alan Wolk
You might be shocked but I actually agree with Toad's Sixth Reader. I've commented on this WAY LONG AGO wrt to Barbarian Group (Sub Chick) and Campfire (Audi).

3 REAL issues here:
1) IP should not be given away or sold at a discount. BSS (a cousin of RSS) have no one to blame but themselves if they willingly sign their most previous commodity away
2) Who came up with the IDEA? If it was BBDO, then surely they get the credit? TBWA\C\D farmed out all the ABSOLUT interactive to PRODUCTION shops i.e. execution vendors.
3) And this is how I REALLY feel :p - all the real heroes i.e. BSS, Barbar, Campfire, Chameleon etc etc etc should cut off the oxygen flow to the big agencies....cut 'em off at the knees and expose 'em for their true deficiencies. People rise to the level of their own incompetence

in Why I'm Blue on The Social Media Marketing Blog
Don't be blue. Think of all the kissing a$$ that's going to occur now! By the way, did I mention how much I admire your incredible impersonations. Or how your eyes twinkle when the sunlight hits them at that exact special moment?

Seriously though, we'll miss you and you'll always be my Consigliere.

The fact that you're leaving to head up Ford's social media efforts is a tribute and testament to - first and foremost - you and your achievements, together with the work you did at crayon and without question, the rise and growing importance of conversational marketing.

PS If you're lucky, you might still catch our President-elect celebrating his Al Gore endorsement :)

scottmonty Why so slow on the uptake, Interruptor?

It's been a privilege to have been part of the crayon team. I'm honored when you call me Consigliere, because I know the role has really meant something to you over this past year.

My own personal rise could not have occurred without crayon, and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to work with some of the most creative and talented minds in the biz. Here's hoping I can continue to bring that to Ford.

And as to politics, let's just say my color scheme is a bit off. :)

Hold on...is this an April Fool's Joke?

I never thought I'd end up saying I despise anyone more than AT&T!

in My oovoo revioo on Matthew Ebel
Matthew,

Don't you think you're blowing this whole Mac vs PC thing a bit out of proportion?

fwiw, there were plenty of Mac users who participated in the program and were able to experience a satisfactory (if not better) connection.

Yes, I know this is not about the program itself (and I appreciate your kind words), however I think it's important to recognize the fact that *had* ooVoo run this program without a Mac component, you (and others) would have dumped even harder on them in the process.

I'm not defending them or even being defensive. I'm just calling your attention to the fact they did their best to accommodate an important user base, even though their Mac client is still being worked on.

...and before you mention it, yes I know that they shouldn't release anything until it's ready for prime time....but that's why they call it an alpha and that's why it was only available for www.myoovooday.com

In any event, I'm glad you gave it a try. I'm glad your experience got better over time. The folks over at ooVoo will continue listening to all suggestions (Mac and PC alike :)).

Hopefully you'll stick around to chat accordingly. I'm not using Skype anymore so if you want to talk to me, you're going to have to use ooVoo :)

PS If you use iChat, can you use it to talk to people on PC's? If not, perhaps I should blog about it :)

in Join the Conversation Book Review on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
It's funny Chris...my challenge is how to best address my primary/core audience - the senior marketer, without necessarily alienating the social media elite (i.e. "he didn't tell us anything we didn't already know")

fwiw, I've received some pretty positive feedback from the brand marketer community (traditional or otherwise)

The irony with "Conversation for Dummies" is that it is those who are avoiding conversation that are the true dummies :)

Thanks CSPenn for your review...

Personally, I thought there were plenty of actionable, prescriptive next steps but that said, JTC is not a tactical how-to guide to your point.

PS I'll pass on your critique to the folks over at Wiley :)

It's been one of my personal highlights getting to know and work with you.

in Using Social Media as Part of a Product Launch on Ignite Social Media
Great synopsis. The only point I'd add is that what the book is about is exactly what I used today to market the book...so in effect, the book becomes its own case study

in How would you hire Calacanis? on Scobleizer
Just posted on this as well:

"Also, Calacanis' move demonstrates not only social media's role in terms of elevating one's own personal stock price (getting a job), but also (and arguably more importantly) being in a position to offer a job, and thus attract talent."

Also, here's a piece I wrote on Talent Zoo titled, "Weekdays at Bernies" - which talks about the other side of the coin, retention: http://www.talentzoo.com/content/guestcolumnist...
