in 5 Green Initiatives Using Social Media for Good This Summer #FindingTheGood on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Robert:
I am not financially beholden to GM. I have never worked for them, nor am I in discussions to work for them. This was about green social media initiatives, and they were willing to share one that is forthcoming. The site links to their current effort to reinvent their image, but there is no link to the green initiative because per the post it has not launched yet. It's that simple.
The viability of the Volt itself is something that only the market can determine, but it is a different vehicle than the ones you mention because it is solely run on electricity. Dare I say, unless you have a bullet proof crystal ball, let's reserve judgment until it launches.

in Is Corporate Social Media Poisoning the Well? on Social Media Explorer
Kat: I think you are spot on. Almost every organization I talk to is doing some form of social media, albeit not well. Thus my chart. As to the rest, I've decided to listen from here on out and see where everyone else is at. Thanks for your support!

Thanks, Geoff. I'm still a little puzzled at the response your original post got--it seemed clear enough to me. Methinks much scanning and kneejerk responses ensued.
From my perspective the "doing some form of social media, but not well" is a wide-open opportunity. They've already gotten over the BIG hump of any participation at all and whether or not there's potential value. It's sometimes a lot of hard work righting the ship. Sort of like changing the tires on a moving vehicle. But you can't say it's not a challenge! ;-)

Geoff: No problem. I'm glad I enjoyed the book as much as I have been enjoying your blog. Keep up the great work. Next time you're in NYC, I'd love to buy you a drink and pick your brain!

Strong post. With every bubble, there comes a burst, and I think the whol expert/personal brand thing is heading that way. It's communications with stakeholders, old school PR that we're talking about here...
I've been at the forefront of social media for three years and have been amazed by the past year's events and the rise of the popular expert. Very weird.

Metrics are so intangible. Why? Because they must be tied to the business strategy, something most social media campaigns don't do...

Thanks, Paul. We are certainly trying to make it human, but the nomenclature doesn't help. I think they key word is social, not technology...

in Growing Your Audience- Some Basics on Chris Brogan
Great post, Chris. It's really all about the audience and serving them day in, day out religiously. Too many people try to be the hero, try to be smart, and grow the biggest tribe possible. The reality is it's better to have the right tribe of 30 than one of 30,000.

I am sure you can measure sales leads and conversions resulting from social media efforts. The Internet is imminently measurable, and referrals and conversion percentages are the first clues of success. We measured Goodwill if Greater Washington's social media effort last year, and saw direct sales results.

I definitely agree that FriendFeed is for fans. It provides a unified stream that they can peruse. I personally do not enjoy it very much.

Cable TV is a big detriment, and not having it saves me hours upon hours. I totally agree with this, and recommend cutting it to most people.

Yeah, I know Shel, and I don't think it was a ruse. He is seriously upset and humbled by this situation.
And no, Shel wasn't completely right. He shot bad video, reacted poorly when criticized, and fueled the situation, but since then he has owned his wrongs. It's time for Loren to drop the rock and do the same.

in Upcoming D.C. Events on Social Times
It's also interesting that you fail to mention major events like PodCamp DC, Bar Camp DC, BlogPotomac as well as the Social Media Club efforts underway. Ironic when your speaking requests for an event with a set line-up were turned down. Perhaps its just coincidence. Perhaps not.

I agree Geoff. PodCamp DC is a major event to look forward to each year, and this year's event looks even more promising than those that have passed! :)

in D.C. Social Media Has Blown Up, Now to Get the Entrepreneurship Going on Social Times
If you want to create an umbrella, then you need to be inclusive. Otherwise significant majorities of the community will not support this effort. I'd also suggest cross-linking a lot more, fellas. No cross-links is inherently anti-social. See Doc Searls on this (you know, the guy that wrote the ClueTrain Manifesto).

I think its a little of both. There are certainly as many women out here as there are men. Maybe some of us grasp the newest shiny tool first, but the disproportionate numbers don't account for just that.

Fascinating conversation. Shouldn't a social media agency ultimately enable to company, not stay on? But the monitoring and coaching component seems to be necessary for the long-term.

This was an unintended experiment. I started using Posterous and I thought it was just getting saved to my stream - didn't realize it would automatically post to my blog. I'll be editing that feature, obviously.
In the meantime, thanks for the guest post! :-)
