You are charged $1 + tax each night you keep the movie; you may rent with a free code on day number one. If you don't return it within 25 days, you own it for $25 + tax.

These are the rules you are agreeing to when you rent - I'm not sure what recourse you are looking for.

I called about Live Free or Die Hard the day it was released. The customer support person said they made a mistake when they placed the order and requested full screen.

I don't think I've ever entered the code without the touchscreen doubling up at least one of the characters. Double check what you've entered before you press enter.

Sometimes the kiosks lose internet communication with the Redbox computers. When that happens, the kiosk can not confirm you have entered a valid code. If they can't confirm, the code won't work.

I don't think the codes don't come out that early from Redbox. I have them sent direct to my phone and they always arrive between 10:05 and 10:20 am CST. Maybe the owner of this website sees different results, but I doubt it.

Unfortunately, no. You can only use the FREE CODES when you rent in person at the machine.

This will make you throw rocks at me -- $3.35 in Oklahoma City.

Having more overhead is the reason the exact same movie from Blockbuster costs 4 times as much. It's been my experience that discs from Blockbuster are in worse condition than those from Redbox.

If you rent online, you will still have to use a valid credit card at the machine when you pick up the movie. (In all instances, you will have to use a credit card at the machine.)

You can NOT use a free code if you rent/reserve online.

When you rent at the machine, you can either start by pressing the small "Rent with Promo Code" button before you select a movie -OR- you can press the "Add a Promo Code" after you select a movie.

Great reminder - treat these discs better than your own property!

By the way, 1 out of 2 is very high - my problem rate is more like 1 in 30! Do the discs play after you clean them? Sometimes it really helps to clean your DVD player, or it may be time for a new one (they don't last forever!) Maybe you just had a run of bad luck. Better luck in the future!

"See All" is my favorite as well, but all of these upgrades are welcome improvements!

My previous favorite was when they updated the look of results from Find a Movie. In the early days, the highlighting between "available" and "not" were too similar. I thought the feature was broken the first few times I tried it, but now the available locations really stand out nicely.

By the way, I've yet to see a kiosk with the update in Oklahoma City. Has anybody else been left out?

Right now Redbox is only offering freebie codes for Mondays. The code on Wednesday was an EXTRA special offer just for the month of May. (I’m a fellow customer not affiliated with Redbox or InsideRedbox so I don’t know if they will offer Wednesdays again in the future. I hope so!)

I've rented a few right after midnight. It's been a few months, but I'd expect that is still the rule.

Good for Redbox! I'm sure things will get worse before they get better - and this is exactly the type of response needed to make things get better.

I have seen this change at any of my 'Boxes in OKCity, but I haven't seen the new screens you reported 2 weeks ago either. I'm still looking forward to that improvement.

For me the official "Free Day" codes have worked 100% of the time. Your 'Box has probably lost communication and is out of synch with the rest of the locations. I have one in my neighborhood that is usually off-line while the one across the street is always on-line.

Also, as you type in the code, make sure double letters don't sneak in (that happens most of the time for me) and be careful so you don't mistake 1 for I or V for U.

You obviously have internet access - make that work for you! Go to the Redbox website and use the FIND A REDBOX link to see exactly what is in each kiosk in your area. I NEVER leave the house before I find a couple close locations where I can rent the movie I want. (It's a good idea to pick two just in case someone beats you to one location.)

It's an incredible convenience to just walk up and rent your movie instead of having to do your research while standing out in the weather. (And the people waiting behind you will thank you, too!)

I gotta agree with Mark. I *HATE* tiny lists that force me to click "next" over & over. I'd rather see a text-only list on 2-3 screens vs. 10-at-a-time pictures of the jacket cover spread over 20 screens. Sorry, young programmers, I got over the excitement and the thrills of clicking a mouse (or touch screen) multiple times back in the 1980s. I know it's cool - it was popularized on the Apple Store, later made it to Netflix, later everywhere else - but this FAD is not very user-friendly. (God, please tell me this will fade away to obscurity and is not here to stay because Johnny Can't Read.)

"Man from Earth" was on the main movie section a while back, but it was released almost a year ago.

I LOVE your idea of searching multiple 'Boxes. I could take two different routes to/from work that are equidistant and never go out of my way while passing six different locations.

Thanks, Daniel, I was waiting for someone to bring that up. For those of you who don't get the codes sent to your cell phone, the messages do indeed say "Forward to friends".

Wow, how miserable. I think I've seen 2 separate parties waiting in line ONCE. The other 999 times I was the only person there.

But I have walked up behind a couple who were reading the description for every DVD. I got bored waiting for them so I figured I'd just drop back by after I ate dinner. ONE HOUR later, the dopes were STILL there trying to pick a movie!

Another time there was a gaggle of teenage girls trying to come to a consensus on what to watch. I think they had 3 people on cell phones trying to get help.

Thankfully, there are nearly as many Redbox locations as there are fire hydrants in Oklahoma City so I never have really have to wait - I just drive an extra mile away.

I fully agree with an earlier post that said "avoid prime time." From 5 until 8pm is the busiest. And if you don't want to miss the new releases on Tuesday, stop by on your way to work or at lunch. I'll almost guarantee you will eve be able to get the blockbusters on Day 1.

Go to Redbox’s website and click the link that says “Get a free rental.” Fill out the information under “Join the SMS Network” and the codes will be sent directly to your cell phone. Hopefully. Eventually. It took over a month before I got my first code.

Hey, yeah, thanks for the reminder - "Futurama: The Beast With A Billion Backs" releases tomorrow (6/24/08). I hope Redbox has it since they had the first direct-to-DVD movie. If not, just realize that it means the previous one wasn't profitable. (Scary thought.)

Hi Kim, It's too bad the code didn't work for you, but it DID work for many, MANY other people across the country. I don't know what you expect from this website (something independent for from the official Redbox site) but as for "making sure the code works" I'm sure the owner of this site doesn't have to time or resources to fly around the country and visit every Redbox location in the nation to make sure the codes work for everybody. You could always sign up to get the code directly from Redbox just like I and the owner of this website did. I don't understand what some people expect for free.

Since the vast majority of the messages here are NOT complaining that the code didn't work, maybe YOU should double check to make sure you entered it properly (didn't enter U instead of V, etc.)

Just a thought.
