in A Glimpse Into The Suffering of Venture Capitalists on Instigator Blog
Great post. I went to AO last year and back in 2003. Very cool event and a nice opportunity for some "Valley immersion". You're right that some entrepreneurs are rude in forcing their pitches down the VCs' throats .
But as a VC we need not forget that it is our job to listen to pitches and I tend to feel that hearing a pitch is a privilege, not a favour I'm granting someone. Like it or not, entrepreneurs and their ideas are the "raw material" of our trade and should be respected as such... even if the investment is very clearly not for my firm.
But then again, I'm not in the Valley and I don't get pitched to every time I ride the elevator...

in Entrepreneurs Unite! Let’s Do Breakfast in Montreal on Instigator Blog
Sylvain Carle's blog pointed me to this post. If you guys, from time to time, want a young and impressionable venture capital dude to join the discussion and to throw things at (preferably ideas), I'm your man. And I LIVE on St-Laurent, so...
(my usual breakfast hangout is Vieux St-Laurent, just south of Duluth, greasy spoon type place, cheap and good... "Bagel etc." near Marianne is also fantastic, but maybe not set-up for a group meeting).

Matt, great post.
I agree that rewarding good behaviour will be easier that punishing the bad. As you can imagine, the debate is even more intense here with our socialized healthcare.
Hey did you get my e-mail about my pf company NIH going to Michigan in Feb. (and maybe meeting HealthMedia) ? I might have had the wrong address...

in Who Needs Doctors in 2030? on punctuative! by Matt Winn
Great post Matt,
I will definitely check out that book. And thanks for the AO link, I had to miss that session. Tech in healthcare in a hot topic in Canada, where the costs of our socialized system are getting harder to control, with population aging and all other factors considered. But the shift to new technologies is slow. Our governments aren't exactly heat-seekers and early-adopters... Same goes for doctors.
But I tend to agree with your prediction. One of our pf companies http://www.newittech.com/ are making the same bet and they're getting a lot of traction, mostly in the US (not surprising, since the technology buyers are more ROI-sensitive) and France (more unexpected).
