in Krugman on the economy on End * on * End
This tells me 3 things:
This economic thing is freakin scary.
I am annoyed easily- by minute 6 she has asked the same question 3 times.
I am impatient- by minute 6 I lost interest and got the point.
Maybe the fact that 2/3 of the things I took away from this have nothing to do with this enormous crisis is the real problem...

Geez, Dad, your so smart! I know I didn't fall far from the tree! He he...
I worry that others will rely too much on Obama/government making things happen without taking responsibility for the next four years themselves. This is just an "opportunity" for change. It hasn't happened yet and its not up to one person. Its a collective thing and I wish people realized how much they can do as individuals (AmeriCorps is a great example of that!) to benefit everyone else. Also, I wish more people got involved in their communities period. That would be a great place to start! I hope JD and I can carry that through bringing up the girls by involving them first hand in helping others around them. The promising thing is that the generation of youth that are in HS/college are the most involved (in terms of civics and community work) in all of US history! I saw a great quote on Flickr in a pool of pictures about what people want to say to Obama: "We hope you expect as much of us as we do of you [Obama] in the next four".
PS- Who'd ya end up voting for? HA!

in Christmas suggestions? on Six Small Hands
Oh Marge.... I knew who it was as soon as I read the comment. You're too easy. When they all get bigger I saw a great costume for the family- a BLT! parents are each a side of the bun/bread and the kids are bacon, lettuce and tomato. Too bad we make BLATs in our house - with avocado on it too. I wonder if Kevin Bacon is ever a "me"LT? HA HA Funny

Thanks for checking out the blog! I have to admit that our conversations about how funny and amazing our kids are inspired this very much!
I love the idea of reading to each other. I have lots of "couple" friends that have done that. We sometimes get carsick reading so it doesn't work that well, but a nice evening in is perfect. When we travel we load up the IPod with a bunch of NPR "This American Life" programs for our trips to Albany and listen to them as a family through the radio/IPod. Its also on the radio Friday and Saturday nights on 88.7 WBFO in our area. They are stories of regular people in America told through interviews with them. They aren't the "Jerry Springer" style, but are everyday people that have truly fascinating stories. If you haven't heard this program its incredible and free! Another one we listen to is Radio Lab (like This American Life, but about science and medical stuff) from Public Radio NYC. Then again, playing "guess the band" is always a good thing to play with the IPod and pass the time in the car!
Thanks for reading! Looking forward your suggestions and comments as always!

How about this for blowing your mind- if the babies were delivered right now in their gestation, the average cost of their care in the NICU, per baby, based on figures from 1991, would be $91,343.
Now imagine not having health insurance or being able to afford it. Now think about those people that don't have health insurance- they are often of low income, which adds up to probably poor prenatal care, which can lead to preterm deliveries. What if I was a single parent and could no longer work and pay for my health insurance? Vicious cycle? Health care is, I think, the number one issue that impacts all the others. If we can't care for the health of ourselves and others, what kind of society are we?

Sometimes I think my job is to worry! Just kidding, but you are right, I do need to cool it. But seriously I kind of hope to be left behind when the rapture happens! It would be nice to have this place to myself for once! Or maybe all the annoying people would go and all the fun peeps would be left with me! :)

I would like to comment that the XBox 360 sucks ass! Just kidding, but you know I'm not a fan of video games unless I am kicking ass at Mrs. Packman, which in that case, I like the 360. That is pretty much the extent. I am more of a fan of human interaction. And food as well as being outside.
On a side note, I did look up at the TV screen one day while JD was playing football and thought we were watching pre-season already, so I guess if you are into graphics and that stuff its good.

Okay, I gotta review your review Dettbarn. Good thing I am not a music reviewer because this is all just too random (and long):
~First and foremost I strongly veto Elbow. Sorry but those peeps are just too slow for me. However, the dude who sings has some good hair. I have also kind of worn out on Death Cab, Bloc Party, Cold Play, Bright Eyes and the Mars Volta. I'm not even going to touch Thrice because I have definitely not warmed up to them (hey there was a time when I hated the Pixies- albiet in 9th grade, so it might just take time).
~I am not sure what I think of Serfjam yet- it is different enough that its refreshing and interesting to listen to- I am even considering this for some classroom play. Also, I love the Ryan Adams stuff, and I know this will sound shallow, but what the hell is up with that homeless beard? He was SO good looking until that raspy rats nest became attached to his face! I don't know if I can get past that...
~However, I strongly second Beck (he rocks my pants off!) and Sleater Kinney (ass kicking- and that sucks with no pants on!). I listen to "Hell Yes" by Beck almost every morning when I drive to work in the asolute darkness. It really gets me ready for "game time" at school, if you know what I mean. The Magic Numbers are also awesome and great "dancing while you are making dinner" music. Minus the Bear is great because when you listen to them you actually feel like a cooler person with some of those jams. Common's music is also catchy, but the lyrics are so down to earth. Idlewild still has it as does the Malkmus, plus Malkmus can give me that non-serious, laid back, hangin out, foolin around kind of song that not many can. He has a lot of good "on the way home from work" songs. Last but not least, Nada Surf has always been on the "good list" for me since I went to a Jawbox show a long time ago just to see Nada Surf! HA! Anyway, they have definitely improved and this record is the best yet.
