Randy, I think Susan is referring to a tiny strip of color that runs down the right side of your right sidebar. It's between the sidebar and the design, and almost looks like a border, but I don't see it on the left side. It really is kind of neat. You don't see it?
Anyway, this is an EXCELLENT theme. I love it! It didn't wake me up so much as make me smile because it's such a visual treat. Eye candy!

Hi, Randy. I broke down and made an account just to comment on this because it's so timely to how I'm feeling lately. Although I don't spend nearly as much time blogging, surfing and commenting as many others, I have been experiencing a sensory overload with the number of news outlets, blogs and the like, including my own ever-expanding e-mail. It really is a huge wall of sound. I've cut short my list of blogs and my tendency to comment because of it.

Still, while I am not convinced that hate crime legislation would lead to the arrest of pastors who preach against homosexuality, neither has anyone ever offered me a convincing argument that hate crime legislation is necessary. I point to the two life sentences that one of Matthew's murderers received and the two life terms without parole that the other received. If they had been found guilty under a new "hate crime" law, what harsher punishment could they have received? Going to bed without dinner?

Randy, your response to him was great. Reading this as a heterosexual woman, I had the same thoughts as Joe: those are incredibly shallow questions to direct toward anyone and that he was being (ineptly)antagonistic. I think that Susan is being kind (as I believe Susan most always is, to her credit). I think he wanted to rattle you or make his own statement. If he was simply curious, it would have been more about the issue and less about you. But, after hearing your response to him and that he shook your hand, I hope he left with a lesson learned, that two opposing opinions don't have to be grounded in hate.

Randy, you wondered in your blog if it will ever change. My own belief is that it won't. Not only has it become "entertainment" for people to flame one another, but I think modern life brings so many stresses that even the kindest and most patient people are finding it hard not to snarl at others. I agree with you that we should view Jesus as a our role model, but it sure is tough. Some days I fear I'm going to bite my tongue in half.

Hey, Randy. This is the first time I've heard your full testimony. I have a friend who occasionally suffers anxiety over the fact that she did not have a physical or overwhelming experience when she accepted Christ into her heart. She has moments when she wonders if she's truly saved. I used to have to talk her through those periods of stress, but she's much better now that she's spoken to others (like me) who did not have a "moment". Mine was sort of just a dawning that came over me that lasted a few minutes, and then it was truly like the "scales" had been removed from my eyes.

Anyway, thanks for sharing yours.

Hopefully you and TBT will be friends then and can tell it together sometimes. I have some frightening float-trip/camping stories from down around the Missouri-Arkansas border, and they just get better with age. I wouldn't trade them or anything.

I agree with you that pre-approving a prayer makes the whole exercise pointless. However, I think we might disagree on this: They should cease praying at all in the chambers where everyone is gathered. If they want to pray, they should gather as a like group, e.g., Christians with fellow Christians, Muslims with fellow Muslims, etc., and any voluntary mixing of religions. But I've always believed that having one faith's prayer in a representative group goes against the prohibition of establishing a national religion. Plus, the more skeptical side of me questions how many of those people bowing their heads in prayer are even listening or are practicing Christians anyway.
True tolerance would be accommodating any and all religions in the pre-session "prayer" time. Just line 'em up...I imagine we'll know when someone starts on the Hail Mary, because we'll hear the screams.

Hi, Randy. I don't think you are fear-mongering. You truly believe, as many Americans do, that hate-crime legislation will evolve into hampering freedom of speech and religion. I myself have some concerns about it.

However, I have real trouble with this news clip. Making a flyer showing two boys kissing, with the words "God hates (insert homosexual slur here)", and passing it out at the high school at which one or both boys attend is hardly a prank. I think a few days in juvenile detention might teach her a great lesson, and we can pray that she goes on to lead a productive, less nasty life. And if she's the product of hellish parents who taught her that kind of nastiness, we should pray for them too, and any other offspring they're contaminating with their hatred.

By the way, unless you have other links I can read this on, the only other source I could find (which I believe is the original source for the Family REsearch Council's post) says that she and a friend ran and jumped a fence to get away from the police. Again, I think the word "prank" is reaching a bit.

As I said, I have concerns about hate-crime legislation, but I don't think this story will sway anyone on the fence toward the anti-legislation side.

And to your second commenter, as to the wording of the bill: it may protect unfettered speech itself, but I believe some Americans are worried about beind held accountable for actions supposedly incited by that free speech. And we all know that's going to happen. Because lawyers are lawyers.

working as a cashier, i am often confronted by people who insist i bag their plastic-wrapped, plastic-bottled water, individual fruits and vegetables wrapped in plastic bags - even pre-wrapped veggies like lettuce get their own bags, (and other wasteful purchases) in paper bags "for the environment." its maddening because we use ultra-thin plastic bags, and if they were truly concerned about the environment, they could purchase reusable bags from us, or go down the street to walmart and shell out $1 per bag. they could pass on the bottled water, stop bagging produce (except quantity produce, like green beans) in the veg baggies, and trade in their SUV's (i'm in the midwest - Everyone drives a truck) for more fuel efficient vehicles, or opt for mass transit or other alternative transportation sources.

2. Note: for those of us that do "catastrophize," although we feel really crazy during the episode, there is one theory that I think kinda makes sense...we're ready. We almost cope before anything actually happens, so if the event does actually occur (though most, especially this one, don't happen) we actually are more apt to deal with it than those people that think life is always wonderful and perfect.

3. I catastrophized about something crazy this morning that almost had me in tears. Turns out the feeling was gone by 10 am.

4. I really need to get off this computer. I'm always here when you post!
