in 15 ways to make your 9-to-5 a 10 on brip blap
Nice List!

I would add one more, hang out with like minded people at work. Avoid the chatty-kathys and the folks who thrive on office politics and rumors. If they try and engage you in this stuff, simply excuse yourself and walk away. They will get the hint and leave you out of it. This will go along ways toward your mental happiness in the workplace.

in I Am No Longer an Affiliate | Jangro.com on Jangro
It is my coupon site in question. Nice post. I totally agree with 'Happy users don't care'. I have spent years building a loyal user base. I don't rank well in the search engines and I could care less. I focus on happy customers. They are the ones that tell their friends. I do this by building a relationship with my users thru my blog, by answering all emails, and going the extra mile to exceed customers expectations. But yet I get declined by Mahalo because I don't say by each link "the link you are about to click is an affiliate link and I will get paid a commission if you follow it". But like you said, if I did post that statement, my users would probably be more likely to follow it and help me pay my bills! Just my 2 cents.

Cool idea. Nice blog you have here Shawn. Glad I stumbled upon it. Looks like some good info for affiliates like myself. I use Cutline theme as well on my blog and love it. Looks great.

in Ask Shawn Collins: Affiliate Site Eye Candy on Affiliate Tip
Shawn, I agree. I have been running a coupon site for over 5 years and I think you are correct to bring up both of these sites as strong examples. Both sites are easy to use. Connie at Flamingo World not only runs a great business but she is also a great affiliate advocate.

in credit card debt is not pandemic on brip blap
Excellent points.

"advertisements that inundate us daily make it hard to learn in the first place."

Ain't that the truth, this is why college kids get in such trouble when they get their first credit card.

Totally agree with you. And yes it makes me fell like a cheap skate if I refuse to donate. Sucks all the way around. And no you are not selfish in thinking of other ways you would like to use YOUR money. Although, I do like the cupcakes idea!

in how to talk to your teenager about personal finance on brip blap
Some great advice, thanks. My 6yr old son has about $200 in cash in his dresser drawer from bdays, Christmas, etc. I have wanted to take him down to the bank and open a savings account with him, this post may just be the motivation I needed to stop procrastinating. Never to young to start instilling some of these ideas of savings with him.

If the younger son had worked his ass off and became a restaurant manager and recovered financially then throw him the party. Not a second before.

I like how you think here. Investing is not always about dollars and cents, that is something I have to constantly remind myself.

Count me in as well. Great idea BB. Nothing better than a public declaration to keep you on the straight and narrow. I will give it some thought.

in teaching risk tolerance on brip blap
You ask is risk tolerance taught or learned? I think the better question would be, is risk tolerance something you are born with or do you acquire it with life experince. Not sure it can be taught. If you have a risk adverse personality not sure any amount of teaching can make you change your thinking to the point of truly being comfortable with risk.

in the myth of the parent that NEEDS to work on brip blap
Great post! Bravo to you and your wife for making this decision. And it is just that, a decision. I have a hard time believing any married couple that says they both have to work. Sure there are exceptions like you mentioned, but for the most part it is a lifestyle choice where I think priorities are backwards. My wife is a stay-at-home mom to our three kids and she often gets the same treatment as your wife. This topic really gets my blood flowing! We have friends where both parents work and they have the big house and expensive cars and they pick up their kids from daycare at 6pm everynight. Not sure why they even had kids to begin with, essentially, they are not raising their own children.

Great quote. Jordan had the gift of being able to learn from mistakes to become a better player. Truly a great talent! Just keep a baseball bat out of his hands. :-)

in stopping negative thoughts on brip blap
I have not tried the rubber band method, but it seems it is an exercise of diverting your mind rather than creating a pain avoidance reflex. It seems a quick fix at best. For me, I think Bubelah's idea of coming to the root causes of your negativity would have a much more lasting effect. This approach has certainly helped me deal with my sometimes negative outlook.

I agree completely, the best thing about this quote is the do-ability of it. RWE ain't asking for a whole lot here. The things he talks about are what distinguishes us from wild animals. Just some simple humanity.

in saving too much on brip blap
In general, I agree. The only one I would make an argument against is the college option. More expensive does not mean better in many instances. Unless it is Harvard, Stanford, Yale, other top tier college, the education you will get at Santa Clara University (expensive, private college) is not "better" that the education you will recieve at the cheaper option UC-Davis. Rather, what does need to be examined is whether or not you will be able to get thru in 4 years at a large UC school, where you are almost guaranteed to get thru in 4 years at Santa Clara. Cost of the 5th year could even out both schools.

in learning the 3Rs, but living the first two on brip blap
Excellent post. Similar to your fashion industry example is the newest video game system that comes out every Christmas shopping season. Somehow marketers have brain washed consumers into thinking that they need a new system even though the one they have works great and has great graphics, playability, etc. Totally ridiculous.

in illuminating life on brip blap
I agree. Ambience and mood go a long way. Even little things like turning off the TV and just putting on some nice music while eating makes a difference. Heck, for me, even a picnic with a bucket of KFC at the park playing with our kids on a warm fall evening tastes a lot better than at home with paper plates and a spork.

in Money diet on brip blap
I follow the "gorge yourself" diet. I eat what I like whenever I want and I eat as much as humanly possible. How does this translate to my finances, well, I am homeless and live in a van down by the river.
