in New Modeling Tool at SolidWorks Labs! on Ricky Jordan's Blog
Hi Matt,

Yes, it's not new. It's a version of Cosmic Blobs that is more geared towards the professionals. It's used quite a bit with creative talent who use it as a front-end to model things that they use in 3D Studio Max and the like.

By putting it on Labs, we are advertising the concept/ideas to the greater SolidWorks community to both see what type of success you have with it (Scan to 3D with SW) and also what more do you want from it.

Let us know ... send a mail anytime (labsfeedback@solidworks.com).

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Lin,

I didn't see your feedback on the Labs site but other feedback has come in. For some reason, we didn't get the mail. But, I'll respond here.

- Yes, we are expecting the product to run full-screen only ... that's what you'd do, typically, when you present, right? What are your thoughts based on that comment?

- The file format is eDrawings 2008 which is not released yet but will be in the next 4 months or so (it goes into beta in about 2 months). We used the new format since it contains preview images of the eDrawings file which is really nice ... plus, we were able to get a Pro/E translator for eDrawings based on the newer format/code.

- The double-click is a bug that we'll fix.

Keep the feedback coming, it's very much appreciated!

We didn't produce any documentation for ZoomIn ... mostly since it's a prototype to play with and give us feedback. It may become a full-fledged product but that's uncertain right now. And yes, it does have a Beta feel (not everything is perfect). Expect us to improve some things over the next couple of months ... we do update our downloads for bug fixes on a fairly regular basis.

If you want to save out the fly-through, click on the Output tab and then Save File ... one of the output types is WMV and that's your video output.

Yes, it's called ZoomIn. It's meant to be a presentation tool for your designs. If you've got feedback on any of the Labs products, feel free to click on 'Feedback' on the Labs site and we'll be sure to read it ... positive or negative. Thanks!
