The climate in the Senate is far different today, than it was when Franken made those statements. There are 18 Democratic Senators on the line in 2010, who voted against E-Verify. they will be lucky to survive.

There are also 4 Republicans who voted against E-Verify up for reelection in 2010. they are doomed.

Did you see where I.C.E. sent out notices to 625 employers to prepare for an E-Verify audit of the documentation some of their employees are working under.

Americans, by a large majority, do not want illegals to remain in our United States. With increasing unemployment, as of tomorrow morning, it will be close to 15 million American workers who are unemployed.

All while 8 million illegals, illegally hold jobs that they illegally obtained.

That fact is weighing heavily on unemployed Americans, and it is only a matter of time before illegals are forced out of those jobs, by these same Americans.

A Rasmussen Report Poll conducted November 5, 2008 of 1,000 likely voters asked: "Is the government doing enough to secure the border?"

79% responded "no,"” it is not doing enough.
10% responded "yes."
It also asked, "Which is more important: securing the border or legalizing undocumented workers?"

65% responded that gaining control of the border is more important.
26% responded that legalization is more important.
Rasmussen Report Poll conducted from October 24-25th of 800 likely voters found that:

51% opposed the DREAM Act (a form of amnesty for former and present illegal alien students) concept
68% believe the passage of the bill would encourage more illegal immigration in the future.
71% believe that illegal immigrants should not qualify for in-state tuition rates at colleges and universities.
77 % oppose making drivers' licenses available to illegal immigrants.

Is that why illegal immigration reform is referred to as the proverbial third-rail??

A large growing majority of Americas want illegals to leave, and they aren't going to allow amnesty, or a path to citizenship, in any form.

The Bush administration in its final weeks will revive a stalled crackdown on U.S. companies that hire illegal immigrants, issuing a new regulation and asking a federal judge to lift a ban on the measure, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced yesterday.

If the court agrees, the government could begin mailing notices to 140,000 employers regarding suspect Social Security numbers used by an estimated 8.7 million workers, pressuring businesses to either resolve discrepancies or fire workers within 90 days.

Dear Legislators,

Mandate, AND STRICTLY ENFORCE, E-Verify for ALL employers, for ALL employees, and for ANY benefit, and the I.C.E. raids, as well as all of the expemsive new detention facilities, would not be needed.
