in Logo Design Tips - Avoid getting Intimidated on ImJustCreative

Good article. I haven’t been in the field that long (a little over a year professionally), and fall into these traps from time to time. It’s reassuring to hear other designers go through this very same thing, and know that it’s part of the process of growing and developing.

in That $700 BILLION Could Be Put To Better Use on thattalldude
@Eric This would not be a 'subsidy' that the business gets EVERY year. This would be something that can get somebody $10,000 to $20,000 for the purpose of getting started, maybe a little more if they need to build a building. In larger cities, with lots of available space, this might not work as well, but they already have multiple businesses a month opening. This idea is really focused at small towns, which consider themselves lucky to have a new business once a year.
These towns often might have a building or two available for sale or rent, but are completely impractical. A one man computer shop doesn't need 2000 square feet of space in a town with 800 people.
Like you said for the bailout, this would need proper oversight and consequences. We're not going to be handing out tens of millions of dollars out to the counties every year. Like I said, an endowment of NO MORE THAN $10 billion. I think most states would create a smaller one, North Dakota would likely stick a big chunk of money into a school endowment, say $5 billion each for a small business and public school endowment. Between keeping schools open (yes, our school pulls from 3 towns 20 miles apart) and creating an environment where small business gets the support they need to start, we can keep more towns alive.

@Rob This is true, I read an excellent post on that very subject this morning, with potential returns of $2.2 trillion dollars. How long it will take to get those returns remains to be seen though.

@Matt I do extra clicking, but not on a sharing site. My extra clicks are going back into socialbrowse and finding the proper link there. I don't need to give digg any more of my clicks than I already do. (yeah, I use digg a little, but I much prefer Mixx)

in This is Zune madness! on Wizard's Tower

You're right, I don't quite understand how a music video is pricier than a whole tv episode.

Hope you enjoy your Zune. Be sure and hit us up if you have any questions, we'll be happy to help out!

Have a great weekend!

@Hunee I was never called a spammer. I was merely using that as part of the example, that I've tweeted, followed, and been followed enough that it should be obvious that I'm not a spammer, so it can't be used as an excuse not to follow me. The DM is the issue here.

in Want to Know What Ails America with Respect to "Race": Watch HBO’s John Adams Series on Political Intersection
Well stated! I especially agree with the reference about how difficult it is for those who did not grow up in America to understand just how "deep rooted" the issue of race has always been/continues to be.

This actually took me down memory lane as it remined me of someone I briefly dated, a few years back. He was a young (30ish),highly successful entrepreneur who had migrated from Kenya to America at the age of 18. Sadly, I learned that he was indeed a bit clueless about race in this country, holding a very idealistic opinion about the issue. His perspective was that it was non-existent and "all in my head". I actually found it difficult to believe that in his 12 plus years of residing in the U.S., he had never encountered racism along the way!?!. And I can only hope that the magnitude of this historic Presidential election, coupled with other note worthy, race-relative events (e.g. Don Imus scandal,Katrina, etc.),has opened his eyes; brought him down to earth.

This display of ignorance (coupled with other serious differences of opinion regarding race, gender and politics) made it easy for me to eventually bid my former acquaintance farewell!

in Brett Favre, lol on thattalldude
@Ron No offense, I can't stand the Viqueens, I live too close to MN. Favre is a decent QB and all, but as evidenced against my Cowboys, they have an outstanding guy in the wings, who is going to leave town very soon if he doesn't get some starts. GB needs to bring the young guy out, he's ready. If Favre wants to hang around town, let him be the assistant QB coach.

in STAR STRUCK on Indiana Barrister
Look, I'm standing up for Rishawn, and not just cause I like the name. Yes I know that "the star" (not capitalized on purpose)may have every right to fire him but Rishawn was known for interesting invectives and his work skewering both the right and the left made his opinion one of value. Rishawn, hang tough.. maybe you'll get a radio show next? Just not up against Abdul...:)

in The “P” in IPS should stand for Privatize on Indiana Barrister
This knee jerk reaction to call everything private evil is baffling to me. I’ve spent my entire career in public service and there are admittedly things that should be left to the government, but I think those things are dwindling. Law enforcement is about the only thing I can see that needs to be left to the government, because everything from street repair to poor relief is done better by private entities. I have spent time checking again and again the cost of private versus public road construction and the savings in the private sector is astronomical. The efficiency realized by these private contractors is anathemas to public works and no one would want to pay the taxes it would cost to have highways constructed by government contractors.
New ideas should be considered when something is failing and admittedly public education is failing. I hear time and time again that it’s everything from poverty to lazy parents but what are the alternatives? We have spent over 40 years in the war on poverty and still no victory. Maybe we should pull the troops out and turn the education system over to someone who could find a profit in it.

Wilson, the mere fact that you can even look at yourself in the mirror is proof of the existance of GOD because only a supernatural force could keep your reflection from calling you out on your blatant hypocrisy. I was once amazed, now I'm simply amused...
