I just looked and saw that it's been recently bought.

I have no gripe with Techmeme as one tool in a larger toolbox. The only time I start rolling my eyes is when the same topics are rolling through my aggregator at record speed because everyone is writing about whatever is at the top at any given moment in time.

Re: Well, well….Hillary takes Barack ‘ at his word’.

Of all the slimy things she has done, this one takes the cake. I've sent a letter off to Howard Dean, asking him to put pressure on her to clarify her response or withdraw from the race.

her remarks should be rejected and repudiated. And renounced, too.

Re: ABOUT THOSE STATE BLOGGING CREDENTIALS

The state bloggers are one very, very small subgroup of the larger blogger corps. Only one blog per state was named as a state blogger, and if applications weren't submitted, blogs weren't considered.

They haven't announced the bloggers who will receive general press credentials yet, but my understanding is that they plan to be very generous with those credentials and with access to the hall.

Keep in mind that the state bloggers were chosen based on the focus of their blogs being state-focused as opposed to a larger, more general political focus.

I really don't think there was an intent to discriminate at all...stay tuned for the listing of bloggers receiving press credentials for the convention to see a more diverse group.

Re: ABOUT THOSE STATE BLOGGING CREDENTIALS

Here's a page that clarifies things a bit more:

In 2008, the DNCC has made the commitment to significantly expand Convention access for bloggers interested in covering the Convention. In line with the DNCC’s goal to engage more people in the 2008 Convention experience than ever before as well as Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean’s 50-State Strategy, the DNCC will both expand the size of the credentialed blogger pool and also offer for the first time a state blogger credentialing program in 2008. Under this program, the DNCC will offer the opportunity for one blog to be credentialed from each of the 56 states and territories. The DNCC will also credential national bloggers for the 2008 Convention, to include both political and niche bloggers as well as video bloggers from across the country. Bloggers selected for both the DemConvention State Blogger Corps and the General Blogger Pool will be notified in May.

Re: Senator Obama, Just Shut Up about Hillary

christian progressive liberal,

You know from being a Christian that the point of grace is the place where the one receiving it is utterly undeserving.

Barack Obama has every right in the world to hammer her. And if he did, it would destroy his candidacy and his message of transformative politics -- from attacks to respect, from personal to issues.

He has practiced what he preaches. When he says he will find ways to reach out to enemies and find common ground, there is no more immediate illustration of that intent than his outstretched hand to Hillary Clinton.

Who appears to be the loser here? Certainly not Barack.

Be angry, be furious, but also be forgiving, because the goal here is to get this incredible man elected. He is doing all the right things to make that happen.

Re: This Primary Campaign Has Brought Out The Best And Worst In Me

As a woman, I suppose I should have felt outrage over some of the statements made by the media, but strangely, I didn't. I'm ten years younger than Hillary Clinton, white as snow, and certainly have had my share of discrimination and ceilings imposed on my upward mobility.

The reason I didn't feel particular outrage was because all too often, Hillary and her most ardent supporters used their gender as a weapon, dishonestly and cattily. I can honestly say that I have suffered more at the hands of my so-called sisters than I ever have at the hands of men, so those responses, those attacks, the disgrace of hearing them cry out about sexism while completely overlooking the racism was to me, a disgrace.

I can honestly say that the deepest outrage I felt during these primaries centered around the racism I kept seeing. It was heartbreaking and infuriating all at once, and it was sometimes so subtle and self-righteous that it made me want to scream.

Because this man -- Barack Obama -- was the first person to seriously inspire me to give up money, time, and effort toward his success. Like you, my ownership goes so deep that it was personal.

My tolerance level for dishonesty is pretty low, as is my tolerance for outright meanness. I have seen far too much outright meanness, and this is coming from the same side. I think that hurts me more than just about anything.

With all of that, I want to be forgiving, and move past the hurts of this season into what I see as the possibility for the most electrifying national election of this century, or the last one.

Because you know what? Barack Obama's transformative politics won. He just proved to all of us that it IS possible to move past the politics of cynicism to the politics of hope. And he did it by bringing us all into the process, emotions and all. That means that we bear the burden of turning that transforming light on ourselves and now inviting Hillary supporters into the excitement, and that means forgiveness.

Someone once told me that forgiveness is acknowledging the right to be angry and surrendering it. I think that's where we need to go, because the ultimate goal is in sight -- it's just a matter of leaving the past behind and inviting a larger group into the politics of hope. Imagine the transformation in this nation and in ourselves if we can go there.

Re: This Primary Campaign Has Brought Out The Best And Worst In Me

Craig, you're absolutely right when you call her a patriarch. She is, and as soon as I read what you said I realized that's why I never really caught fire over her (and her surrogates') complaints about sexism.

The fact of her candidacy proved that gender wasn't the issue, as did the fact of her presumption that she was the appointed one.

Where you lose me is on the forgiveness factor. Truly, I believe there has to be a way through the collective anger to outstretched hands of forgiveness if we want to have a prayer of winning this thing in November.

And win we must. We didn't fight for Barack's candidacy to see him lose in November because we stand divided. Someone has to make the first move, and sooner rather than later, for our own sake, and the promise of electing an extraordinary and gifted man to the White House this year.

Re: Tuesday Open Thread: What’s Up, People?

I was just watching the 'highlight reel' posted on the Obama blog tonight. It brought back that flood of memories back in January of being absolutely electrified about the possibility that he was actually a viable candidate, that maybe "yes we can" was more than a campaign slogan.

And today, history will be made. I believe that by the time the election returns are reported, enough superdelegates will have declared their support for Obama that the Montana vote will push him over the top.

Today. June 3, 2008. Despite the discouragement, frustration, expectations management that I've put myself through, today will be the day that I can truly let myself believe that we can overcome the cynicism.

That we won't have it stolen from us. Not this time.

That we won't be disappointed. Not this time.

It's going to happen. I can feel it.

Re: The Official JJP - Let’s Just Enjoy This Moment Post

I think the most magical moment (or series of them) was his race speech in Philadelphia. From beginning to end, it was brilliant. But the line I will never forget, the line that made me understand that this man had to be president, that we NEED his leadership, was when he said "I could no more disown him than I could the black community."

To this day, he has not disowned Rev. Wright. He resigned from the church, and rejected his conduct at the National Press Club. But he did not disown him, or the church.

He leads. He leads, and he does it without relying on his weaknesses. He leads through strength and example, and he invites us to be part of something far bigger than each one of us.

I will never, ever forget that speech. Not as long as I live.

Re: Rant: I’m Turning Off My Twitter Automation

Liked “Rant: I’m Turning Off My Twitter Automation : Maria Reyes-McDavis” http://ff.im/-1AP4I

This comment was originally posted on Twitter

Re: Cool Cat Teacher Blog: The Essay that Rocked my world: The Personal side of LD

Vicki,

My son (who graduates next month with a full scholarship to college), had similar problems. In second grade we went through a year where he had to dictate to me (including spelling and grammar) and I typed exactly what he dictated. That summer I decided he would learn to type, and he did. I got him a laptop and it completely turned him around.

Your son's essay is wonderful! It gave me chills knowing that a sixth-grader wrote such insightful and wise words. Congratulations to you for doing what needed to be done for him to succeed. I know that was our goal and we fought for it hard through those elementary/middle school years. It's so gratifying to see technology make a difference!
