in Enterprise 2.0 (Finally) Moves Toward the Enterprise | SocialComputingJournal.com on Social Computing Magazine
As I see it, the raison de etre of the enterprise is productive work, and that consists of a combination of process (bpm), project management and collaboration, and that all three need to be present and integrated.

Further, the key barriers to collaboration are not technical but cultural. I rant on these issues and others in several places, including these slides: http://www.slideshare.net/dllavoy/social-workpl...

Yes, exactly, Micah - but companies don't know how to act like people because they've been trying to act like beacons of perfection for hundreds of years. this more than anything else, I think, is the real hurdle for companies - what does it mean to act human, and after all this time, what are the risks and benefits of it. And even if we want to, how do we unlearn our corporate culture and give it a go? This is a major sea change in corporate philosophy. What would it look like if all companies had a human face? hmm. sounds like a blog post.

I'd like to know what people think "customer engagement" really means and what
the perceived benefit is. Do people really see this as forming relationships with
users? Do they see the benefit of customers who are aware of and in communication
or even community with others? Do they see that engaged customers are supportive
and engaged companies are too?

or, you know, is it just a buzz word.

How about of, by and for the people?
How about transparent?
How about participatory?

Cool Micah - I'll be looking for catalysts here. I imagine you've already thought of Brian W. here in the D.C. metro?

micah I've actually been talking to Jimmy Gardner for that role. I'm excited
that he is interested and willing.

Of course it wild be great to have Brian involved as well.

Well - a story - or really anything interesting means having a point of view, filtering your medium (video, photo, clay, words, whatever) through that perspective and sharing it with others. Some events are compelling enough to have interest all on their own - that's why NewMediaJims tweets are usually so interesting - he's reporting. The phenomenal "This American Life" series on pub radio however makes art of micro events, non-happenings, basic daily life, with an unerringly subtle filter. So - livestreaming? needs a happening or a filter, and a way to find them that got it. get me that, would you?

Gee, Micah - how important is that other shoe? I've explained away similar issues in myself by saying that I have no "present tense". I wonder...

in Don Tapscott says we should think way beyond social software on Loic Le Meur
Yes - I think this will be a new generation of ideas where the corporate boundaries are much more porous and individuals will be increasingly valuable and portable. I also think that the next, next thing is going to be about context. How information is found and how it is used - can that be as powerful as the info itself?

Andrew - how come you don't include product management or product marketing as a role? I've wondered this for a while. PMs and PMMs are the articulators of the value prop and the champions for the user. Design delivers that value, engineering enables it, but PM makes sure that everyone's working toward the same goal. If you hadn't guessed I'm a PM type.

Micah - I don't think you're mean, I think you're a riot. But I'm glad I haven't done anything too stupid (in public) lately.

in Twitter is Communication Porn - Am I a “Playboy” or “Hooters” Tweeter? on Learn To Duck
Well - I'm not sure I'm prepubescent - but I follow some interesting people and some very tedious people. Mostly, I see people who either appear to me to need a way to express themselves, not converse, and a bunch of new media "pros" who seem very self serving. of course, this may be because I'm never good at joining a conversation in a crowd. I like to check in with twitter and I've learned some great stuff. But I don't feel like I have any kind of commumnity there.
