in My Life Commitments on Martin Ruiz | My Random Walk
I really like this list.....just some great stuff on there.
Sometimes, or rather often I think God brings us to these places...places that really help us to slow down and re-evaluate our life, what we are doing and what is important.
For me the top 3 are so important. I love how you said you won't sell out theologically or burn out spiritually. There are always church jobs out there, but I think we sometimes sell out like you said. I've come to the place where i won't take a church job anymore if my theological beliefs aren't played out in praxis in the community. That has helped me filter a lot of the opportunities.
And of course, loving husband and father. What greater ministry is there.

"Because if we, as followers of Christ and agent of the Kingdom of God/Heaven, don’t do the right thing—-God will use whatever means necessary to make it happen."
I love that line.....
I just can't comprehend that type of thinking where we can not be in support of good things, whether or not the person is a Christian. Doesn't make sense to me.
good post.

Tony,
Like I was telling you last night over email and Twitter. Great post...I like the authenticity and the subject. My thought is that a lot of people aren't often comfortable discussing this issue, hence no commenters yet which is surprising.
Aloneness is huge in ministry, and is what often leads pastors astray, into addictions, affairs and other destructive behavior.
I bet the guy you talked and prayed with felt a huge sense of peace last night, like a burden was finally beginning to lift after confession.
You have a great job.....

Peter,
I like the new blog look...clean, simple and laid out nicely....
blogging is an ebbing/flowing process as you know...it's hard to figure out what to say when on the staff of a church sometimes as well...
i try to blog 4-5 times a week...but my stuff isn't deep like the stuff you mentioned above.....

What are the chances (good I would say) of some Dallas peeps and OK peeps connecting and talking about this stuff?

I would love for Micah Davis to be a part of it. I met with him a couple of weeks ago and he was blowing my mind with stuff...

Ahhhh....great post! I can resonate. I've been feeling the need to unplug to create something of value..not that online stuff isn't valuable, but it's more fleeting (i.e. chats, twitter, leaving messages, posting photos). And you are right about the myth.
There's often nothing to show for the time spent either. Connect with friends, which is great. But I want to make a photo album by hand, or learn to play guitar....or really, write that book I've been wanting to write for years.

ah, Tony. I got rid of GTD when we moved. I thought, I hated the book..what I read of it..I hated his charts...took the creativeness out of work, etc, etc. But more and more I wish I didn't get rid of that book. And now, I will be heading out to get it and read it...I have been convinced by many, but mainly YOU. Darn it :-)

Love it...have some of the same stories...I think it was @lizstrauss how made a comment about blogging by saying, "we don't teach pencil." It was somehow in regards to it not being a tool...probably more of a space. This is probably all of out of context and I misinterpreted her...
But all that to say, I love our take on this and the pencil analogy...using social media as a catalyst that moves you into relationships with people offline as well.
Awesome.

Matt,
Thanks for this post. I have been playing around with Pandora for a while and I kept reading people's tweets about last.fm. Felt like I was missing out on something, but your post pretty much confirmed what I had been feeling and thinking about Pandora. I also like that "artisan" touch as you put it......
Even though I wish I listened to more music during the day, i think that I'm ready to take a deeper plunge as I've sorted through the options you mention.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention...I will be back on Pandora tomorrow.

Justin,
I wouldn't say anything to anyone i don't know...most likely...but to someone I do know...yes. It's just part of being accountable to one another...Christian or not, there is a certain amount of accountability we enter into when we have friendships with others.
What you described is all too common, and all too dangerous...seems subtle and harmless...but that's not the reality that couples bring in to my office a year later. Intimacy is created in many ways, and we must be wise as husbands and wives, etc.

interesting post. at my last church there was some discussion on whether or not email was really a relevant work tool in the church...most of the younger staff were communicating on wikis, Twitter, etc...and the older staff were sending lots of back and forth emails...it was interesting.
and that's not to stereotype age, it just happens that sometimes you are exposed to certain social media tools quicker in different age demographics...the issue came down more to were we all willing to change, innovate, compromise on some things, etc.

Justin,
Great post. I don't think we know how deep this rabbit hole goes as you put it.
I think if we say true community can't exist online, then we are being a bit naive, as I'm sure you would agree with. It's not just that community can exist online, but I think the greatest asset of online communities is that they are a catalyst for actual in person community. It is a catalyst that gathers people...that is part of it's true power I think.
