Yay! Welcome Heather! I am so excited that you are going to be here!! So sorry you lost the posts. We are always hearing, "when you put something on the internet is lives forever! So you should be able to find it sooner or later.

If it were inappropriate photos or something, they'd be easy to find. Oh well.

BTW, they design is wonderful!

Great post, Heather. I remember selling our house and getting the same feeling. Besides the fact that we actually finished all the projects! The funniest thing, though, is that the people who bought it came after a weekend of sickness (house was a WRECK!) and our realtor didn't tell us till after they came! (we weren't home at the time) We joked that they would be the one, and what do you know?

Thanks for this reminder. After taking care of the tonsil patient for a week, I need to look around for some "little things" to give me joy!

I can totally see Nate leading that revolt! The Rowlands still have that tradition of saying something about the birthday girl/boy. It's always a challenge (but a good one) to think of something meaningful that we haven't said before. Of course, Judd always has to say something silly.

This is a great post! It seems silly, but I have never thought of these two sections together. The fruit of the Spirit, and how it should look, practically, in our relationships. I also like how you described the husband wife relationship. Especially, "Even when he is acting like a knucklehead she must find a way to give him respect."

Heather, I think it depends on the child and how strong your convictions are. We let HipChick and Princess dress up at school, dance class, etc. Mainly because they love to dress up, and they don't really understand why they can't. When they get older, we'll talk about the real story behind Halloween, and make the decision with them.

We don't, however, decorate or have Halloween stuff in our home.

There is a neat activity you can do with a pumpkin, called "Are you a Pumpkin Christian?" I'll post it on my site this week. Personally, I decided I wasn't going to let the devil steal my daughters' joy when she doesn't understand. I'm not giving him that power; we just ignore him...for now.

A few years after that, there was another storm. It wasn't nearly as bad, but the University canceled classes, which never happens. A few of our friends decided to get snowed in together, the girls at one apartment and the guys at another one down the road. It was great fun at first. We made big meals, played in the snow, watched movies. We also ran out of hot water every morning, and started to get on each other's nerves after a few days. You can imagine 7 college girls together 24/7!

Then there was the time Judd and I had the power go out for 4 days. We tried to put some of our refrigerator food in the snow, but a dog found it! Ah! All I can say is thank God for generators. We have one now, so we can keep our food, and even watch a little TV when the power goes out.

This is so true, Heather. I used to sneak out of the house as a teen until I realized that my dad didn't really care. Then I would just tell him I was leaving after my mom went to sleep. Some of the things that happened those nights shouldn't have. He didn't stop me, and I wish he had.

This a good post, but it's really hard to live. I recently joined a mom's group that has a very diverse population in order to be a light. When you talk about opening your home, which I have done, it's scary, because it involves your children. It really has to be a step of faith! It is also so hard to be salt and light in this current culture that is so hostile (and I mean HOSTILE) to Christians. I need God to give me wisdom (and hold my tongue sometimes)

Heather, this is a great point, and wonderfully written. There is a good book called "Parenting with Love and Logic" about teaching your child to learn from natural consequences. And instead of protecting them from every little thing, teaching them how to respond to difficult situations. Here. here.

Ooooh, this look so yummy! I've never thought of getting a rotisserie chicken for stuff like this. Great idea. They are usually marked down after 6 PM, too!

The canned chicken is actually my favorite for chicken salad.

It is so hard to communicate that true fulfillment can only come in Jesus. Especially in the US, where we can have every comfort. I felt torn this Christmas. I felt guilty for the sheer amount of stuff the kids received (although most of it came from other family members) but also, I wanted to revel in their joy and lavishly give them all their heart desires.

Amen, Heather! I am dealing with the pride issue right now, too. Namely, thinking my actions have anything to do with God's grace or His love toward me. When I try to worship Jesus in my own strength with things I think I should do, then I cease to actually worship HIM! I'm actually worshiping my own actions. Does that make sense?

I keep coming back to Paul's statement to the Corinthians:

"For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified." 1 Cor. 2:2

I am very resistant to change, and each time I've had to make a drastic change, God has had to make me VERY uncomfortable where I am! I am in the midst of a big change with one of the ministries I'm involved in. It's a great change, but God had to really make me squirm in the existing situation.

**Bzzzzt** (brain short-circuiting) I think it's all much simpler than we make it. (Or *I* am much more simple that that)

The words never speak of individuals being pre-destined. I believe this passage speaks of *Mankind* being pre-destined to be in an unfettered relationship with God.

There is a tandem work of God's Spirit guiding us into faith, and the response of our will to accept it. But the actual "work" of Salvation was accomplished by Jesus alone, obviously. God can use any means necessary to accomplish His will, however, "it is not meant that any should perish."

Along with pre-destination comes God's "foreknowledge." Even though He has predestined all of mankind to be adopted as sons, he also knows who has the will to accept Him.

I got stuck at one of those prayer meetings ALL NIGHT one night in college. It was two hours away from home, and I of course was not driving. They were doing some special dance with the shawls and entrancing music in the background. I spent the whole night praying I could go home! The people I went with thought I was demon oppressed because I thought the whole thing was insane.
