in Why Boycotts Fail on Inelegant Solutions
Eh, I'd rather take the energy I'd spend doing a boycott and come up with some million dollar idea instead.
Leave it to the capitalist to say something like that ;)

in The Worst DMCA Response I’ve Seen on Plagiarism Today
Thought I'd chime in a bit - I got almost the same response when I sent a notice to HostGator many months ago. Basically responded and asked for a higher up and it was taken care of quickly. In fact - it was nearly the same response. I wonder if the same guy worked at both places?

Hm, that is odd. I've never had any problem with Hostgator ever but you're not the first to report issues. One person has said that they required a fax and another said they got a similar reply to you. Very odd. I'll have to follow up on this.

in Safari’s New Interface: A Shiny Mess on Inelegant Solutions
Better than vista heck no - I agree - but if the next OS X is anything like Win 7 I'll be one happy geek. If not, hello Win 7.

It looks like the next gen OSes for both will be more about speed and fixing bloat than anything. I think that's good for everyone. Apple and Microsoft fans.

To be honest I've pretty much given up on Apple. They constantly tell developers to "follow the aqua guidelines" yet they break the rules themselves all the time. Not a good way to set an example IMO.
Plus their software is getting too bloaty. Hope the next OS X fixes that. If not I'm done with them.

Since I don't develop for them I can't comment on that much, but I don't feel that their software has been getting too bloaty, certainly they're still better than Vista. Though I, like you, hope the next version brings both sexy and speedy back....

in Dominos Fail on Inelegant Solutions
Personally I prefer sticking with small local pizza places. I tend to think they give better service and better food - and you're supporting the local economy and not some rich corp based out of state. Even if the places are individually owned (not sure how Dominos structures their business) they still have to pay the mothership.
Not to mention local places have great wings too usually. One of ours has some mean garlic wings... If no one was around I could eat 50 of them easy ;)

Though I normally agree with that, New Orleans is not well known for a strong local pizza culture. Though there are many great local burger/seafood/etc. restaurants, there aren't a lot of great pizza ones, especially since Katrina.
Still, perhaps it is time for another check...

in The Mac (Un)Mighty Mouse on Inelegant Solutions
I'm more of a logitec mouse fanboy. I could care less about their other products - but their mice are just awesome. They fit perfectly in my hand - work flawlessly - and i've never had a problem. Whenever I use a mouse from an inferior company it just doesn't feel right :)

I'll be sure to remember that :). I own many of their mice and I agree that they've been the best overall. I had a trackball of theirs I used for six years.

I agree with you totally. I also can justify the "apple tax" a bit - granted I'm currently using a hackintosh. Believe it or not the ONE feature that keeps me from using windows or linux as my main os is the way it selects text when you double click on a chunk of code or whatever. It sounds stupid - but when you program professionally and have to drag bits and pieces of code around 1,000 times a day even the slightest delay can throw off your whole rhythm. Even using the same exact IDE on windows/linux/ and os x it is different.
As far as the mouse goes - yeah it's a joke. Admittedly I'm a logitec fanboy - always loved them - always will.

I understand completely and can relate. Most of the benefits of OSX are very subtle but to those that do a lot of work in it, it is a real time saver and it pays for itself.
However, I've never met a Logitec fanboy. Kind of a strange company to be a Fanboy of. I love their trackballs and mice, their cameras are pretty solid too, but never thought of myself as a fanboy...

Wait... so going around chat rooms saying "hey babe, wassup?" and asking "a/s/l" is considered creepy? Dang - there goes my chance of getting a date.

in Hostgator Bites Spam on Plagiarism Today
Yeah that was always one of the issues that has bothered me with HG. There's been numerous times that my server has been put on e-mail blacklists due to the spam other users send out. It's quite a mess to clean up - but at least it hasn't happened in a while.
Maybe one of these days when I get a few extra hundred bucks per month I'll just get a dedicated server and end the shared hosting torment.

I don't think you'd need to go all the way to dedicated, a VPS would give you a private IP, which is what I am on. I think that would work better for you. But yes, that can happen in any shared environment, as long as you share an IP with a bad guy, you can get bit by the blacklist.
Luckily, those blacklists aren't treated as highly as they once were, most spam filtering is content-based now...

Hey Jonathan, long time no see. If you're wondering - I've been busy with life, love, and the pursuit of a worthless green cloth-like substance known as currency and haven't had much of a chance to stay up-to-date on current news (haven't touched an RSS reader since December). Just wanted to stop by and say hello. I might be getting back into the whole "blogging" thing here in the next few months, just got to finish up a few side projects first.

Indeed, long time no see! Thanks for stopping back by. I can definitely understand being busy and I'm just glad that you're doing well. You're always welcome back and I look forward to your return when time and projects allow.
Glad that you are doing well!
