Also, since you've made it clear you don't agree with the stimulus plan. Can we assume that you will be returning any tax credit/cut you personally receive back to D.C.?

No, because it is my money anyway. The tax cut/credit isn't what I have a problem with. It is the frivolous spending. I may give it away to charity.
Here's the thing Dave. The recession is affecting me as well. My family health insurance got cut - that is about 25% of my salary package. I do not expect government to bail me out. I'm praying for God to provide. I am taking responsibility looking at plans that may work, and I may have to get a third job to make the payments for it.
I am likely going to have to find a different position all together. So I don't want you to think I'm making these comments from a bubble. I'm not. I'm being hurt by this just like a bunch of other people. Here's the thing Dave - you are in the minority - before this thing was passed it had only 37% in favor of it. Why - it won't work the way it is written. Numerous economists and the Congressional Budget Office have said so.
As far as different plans, check Senator DeMint's website, or Congressman Eric Cantor's website. Numerous conservative blogs, etc.
I know we need a stimulus, but this isn't it. It's just spending.

Shane - what I find interesting is that you and most other conservatives have not offered any plausible solutions to our current problems...simply critiques of Obama's plan. However, I know there must be conservative ideas out there. Can you please point me to solid and reliable conservative resources that communicate ideas on what we should do about our economy. Preferably resources that don't continue to overuse the term "Porkulus."
And doing nothing is not an option.

Well CBO says it would less harmful.
Well the probelm Dave is that alternatives were suggested to the Democrats and President Obama, and while President Obama seemed to listen, Congressional Democrats did not.
Tax cuts for individuals & small businesses. Incentives for small businesses in particular to invest in equipment and hiring. Insure bad loans... Dave Ramsey suggested this. If there needs to be spending target it - focus it on infrastructure. Make sure that it will actually create jobs.
Cut spending, when we are in a recession we all need to tighten our belts, government should be no different.

I believe you are reading into the rhetoric of the article too much. Have you praised your child for doing something right? When it says they praised Obama and King, did they literally get on their knees and give praises to them? I highly doubt it.
I do agree that hope comes from Jesus and worship is met for Jesus alone. But the feeling of hope that you are speaking out against is the same hope numerous evangelicals felt when Bush was elected. I know this because I was a part of it. I was a part of putting my hope in a man...simply because he was a Christian.
From the outside looking in...I think you have been blinded by this one.
You are missing it.

Fair enough, and I hope you are right that I'm reading too much into the rhetoric.

Jason -
I think you may have missed the point of this post by Justin. The post was not intended to be a bash against Principal. As their employee, I'm sure you have felt the effects of budget cuts in your department and I do not doubt that they looked at other ways cut costs before letting go of employees.
What is being said is that the times are different. There was once an ideal that if we give ourselves away for a company, a company will give themselves away for us. Gen Y' has seen their grandparents and parents devote their entire lives to a company (often at the expense of their family). Then, upon retirement they are given a gold watch and party with cake from Hy-Vee and red punch.
Why would we give loyalty for a watch and some cake? It doesn't make any sense.
That fact is the ideal of company loyalty is gone. We have learned that generally speaking, most companies care more about revenue than people (sadly most churches has adopted a business model and also care more and revenue and programs than they do people).

in Praying For a Bailout. on BeDeviant.com | THINK DIFFERENTLY
Here is what I know:
1. The union workers for these companies are some of the highest paid union workers in America. Most union workers do not come close to earning what these workers have earned.
2. The bailout is seen as a way to "save jobs." However, in the Big 3's plan to cut costs they are planning on eliminating thousands of jobs. Is that ironic to anyone else?
It seems to me they should be able to find away to get some help, reduce costs, and keep jobs. Which is better, eliminating thousands of jobs so some people can be overpaid? Or keeping all the jobs and reducing everyone's pay slightly.
In a time like this we need to look at another struggling auto company who pulled it all together and kept their business running while retaining all the employee's jobs: Callahan Auto Parts.
That's right, the auto company that was saved by Tommy Boy. He worked hard to save the company and took personal responsibility for is poor actions in the past. I think this best sums it up:
You can take a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a bull's ass, but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it?

Where's Farley when you need 'im?
I'm of the opinion that if a business goes bankrupt, they probably shouldn't be in business anymore. Why? Because they lost all their money. They have shown that they do not know how to run a business properly.
Now, learn from your mistakes and relaunch as a different, more financially sound auto company!

For Hair Stylist - it depends upon the service. A hair cut for a guy - maybe $5. But a full highlight/haircut/style for a woman with long hair - closer to around $20.

The bitterness of the following comments might take this whole discussion over the edge:
Generally speaking, Christians are not just horrible tippers, but horrible customers.
My wife works in the cosmetology industry. She is an amazing hair stylist and is very reasonably priced (considering where she works and the quality of her work). Many of you reading this here know me and my wife, so you know that just over a year ago we left the where we attended. At the time roughly 50% of Sarah's customers attended this church.
Once we left to start a new church, she lost nearly all of her customers who attended the church we left. Gone. After months of loyal service, gone. Never to be heard from again.
Was it because they were bitter we left? Was it a convenience issue (i.e. it's too much work to set up an appointment on the phone vs. seeing you on Sunday mornings)? I don't know.
I do know that her business took a huge hit and so did we. So thank you, Christians, for being so unloyal and stingy and nearly putting our family in financial ruin.
Awesome.

I love the girls on the outside of the camera shot...they mock the girls in the middle who start crying. My favorite line? "How can they vote for that loser who doesn't even shave!" I love it because Archuleta probably can't even grow facial hair.

in Can You Vote for Obama? on BeDeviant.com | THINK DIFFERENTLY
Here is what I am struggling with -
My wife recently received a phone call from a family member who expressed great concern because we have decided to vote for Obama. She said she loved us and wanted us to realize the truth - that Obama is an evil, evil man. She wanted to ask us how we can stand in front of God and justify voting for a murderer. She went on to say that nothing hurts God more than murdering babies
Wow.
First off, I'm not so sure that was done in "love" as she mentioned it was. Secondly, who are we to decide what is on God's heart most? Where in the bible does it say abortion is the most important issue to God?
Please read this statement - I do not support abortion and God is not for ending life. However, how can one justify it is the killing babies is most on God's heart when we read in Exodus that he killed all the first born sons in Egypt?! Why this happened I cannot explain. I don't get God sometimes (most times actually)...but the bible says it happened.
When I hear conservative evangelicals talk about the sanctity of human life it makes me want to throw up. What they really mean is the sanctity of an unborn child. What about the sanctity of ALL HUMAN LIFE. Including the down trodden, the widows, the orphans, the oppressed. What about the sanctity of life of those being slaughtered in Darfur and in Iraq. Are they less important than an unborn child?
I do not consider myself a democrat, but as a Christian I feel so used by the Republican party. It feels like they just throw Christians a couple bones to chew on every election year (i.e. abortion and gay marriage). Christians eat them up and give them their votes - then nothing ever changes. It also seems like they throw us they issues to cover the fact that most of their economic issues are biblically questionable at best.
The End.

The book "Pagan Christianity" is the worst thing that has happened to The Church since "Purpose Driven Life"
Then we were told by Congress and Obama they were going to work in a bipartisan manner and GOP leaders were shut out of numerous meetings on the stimulus and they were shut out of the conferencing committee when they reconciled the Senate and House versions.
I mean this is almost a trillion dollars don't you think more thought should have gone into this? Should have they had time to read it? I think so.
