in A debate on the prospects for internet display advertising on The Equity Kicker
Hi Nic -

Great post.

I think part of the problem lies in the layout. It seems like ads were haphazardly placed on websites to mimic their partners offline. Just look at the placement on Facebook they keep adjusting the model but seemingly taking steps backwards in user experience. Would it not be wise at this juncture for someone to rethink the whole schematic? And see if they could garner some more valuable inventory by placing them where users would like them instead of in left over space hoping to gain revenue.

brisbourne Thanks Stephen

The challenge with that line of argument is that I think the average user would rather see no adverts. That leaves website owners having to trade off monetisation against the user experience. Magazines and TV stations have been doing this for years, but I think we have yet to find the right balance on the web.

in Hey Nielsen!!! A request from The Internets!!! on GregHay.com
Hey - Nice blog, Greg. I am enjoying it so far.

However, I am a little confused by this statement. "I think the ultimate win for online media planners is going to be when groups of people can be identified and targeted by how they move and navigate the web, NOT by who left a footprint by visiting a site at some point in time." Is this not why we use click paths, referring URLs and other targeting and behavior-based metrics? They give us a peak into the past for glimpses of the future.

in Time’s 50 Best Web Sites on AttentionMax
HiMax -

I like all those sites. I just wish Mint updated more often. I find the info not in sync with my actual statements if I go to the bank site. I have been really enjoying shivsingh.com/goingsocial lately.

and so many more...

maxkalehoff Thanks Stephen. I love Mint, but see your pain...I'm being patient with them
because they keep making the service better. Mint's a lot like my company,
Clickable. An overlay of other Web services to bring simplicity, instant
gratification and profitability.

I am not surprised they did this it seems about right.

Also, you forgot what ambassadors of good will the subway attendant is and how they will be happy to transfer the balance. As long as you don't wake them for one of the many naps they seem to take whilst working.

in Conquering Fear of Blogging on Chris Brogan
I am still fairly new to blogging and think that the most valuable thing is to become a voracious reader. Read everything and anything to help fill your head with ideas of all shapes, sizes and forms. It will help to create your own ideas when it comes time to sit and write.

Great post. This is a in-depth list. I really think you hit with analysis paralysis. I think many companies still fear handing over power to the community. But they need to realize all the value that lies within.
