Heck, I just realized you can move stuff on to the menu bar as well. So everything in the navigation bar just went to the menu bar!

Now I have the space to make another bookmark toolbar.

Wow. I discovered this for the second time. I just brought out my Portable Firefox (3.1beta) and I had already done it to that one.

You'll have to excuse me, after 14 months of fighting to get a working motherboard in my desktop (don't ask, the power supplies that have been blown in that search...), I'm glad I've got the desktop up and running. And now I find that it is slightly behind my laptop configuration. Duh.

I got some room just by moving the icons up into the same bar as the address par. Then I got rid of the search bar (I have specific keyworded searches I use in the address bar, go for google, gm for google maps, gn for google new, gi for google images, etc.)

It helps that I'm on a 1600x1200 monitor, so I've got the space to do it across, although I like it just as well on the laptop that only goes 1280xwhatever.

My wish is that I could individualize the folder icons on the bookmark bar. Then I wouldn't need labels for them. Which would mean more space for more bookmarks.

I would think my own NCC-1701 (original, A, B, C, D, E) would be a good investment. A Minbari Flyer would be a good choice. I'm just not sure that a White Star can make an atmospheric landing. Anything from Farscape though would scare me. Daedalus would be good as well.

A Star Trek replicator would be excellent, but an SG-1 Replicator would not.

The Star Trek Companion would be interesting, but then who wants to live forever?

And whatever it takes to make Romulan Ale would also be a good companion with the barley, wheat and grapes. Potatoes too for vodka.

And probably a tasp to pass the time away.

That's why I went to portableapps.org, downloaded portable Firefox 3.0, and tried to install all my extensions. Tab Mix Pro still isn't ready. My theme (Noia Extreme 2.0) isn't ready, and I haven't found a good theme I like that runs on FF3 yet. So I'm still running FF2 until these items get resovled.

Looking back, no wonder I've set some blogs to ignore updates this week. I already had you "ignored". ;-) Have no clue as to why. So it wasn't a biggie for me anyway.

I'm just surprised at the number of Bloglines readers there are. The 200 limit should also be a limit for Beta Bloglines, as that's the limit in the backend. I don't run into that as a problem except for my torrent feeds, which have become pretty much useless at this point regardless of reader. Just way too much to go through and weed out what I may want.

Google Reader doesn't just work for me. Yes, I've tried it, when Bloglines fell off and stopped updating one weekend. It imported my OPML file just fine, but trying to get caught back up when you're reading 1000 feeds is a bitch. Especially when you think that you're almost done reading a folder and Google then proceeds to keep scrolling more new stuff at you. No demarcation of when I've stopped reading on one feed and started another. No real numbers, just 100+ or 1000+. No (obvious) way of collapsing feeds, and no (obvious) way to mark a folder read. Stuff that I scrolled by that was still marked as new (which was the most frustrating). Hell, I don't even like the beta Bloglines. Go figure. And I get updates on articles on those feeds that I want.

I can understand the frustration. You just choose the wrong target.

This just proves that Scoble is an idiot. Just like the rest of us! :)

That was pretty good. I'm signed up for a bootcamp (this one is in Miami) and while I've been out of work for the past six years (I became Mr. Mom), I really had no idea of what it was really going to be like. And I'm glad to hear that somebody that's good with NT 4 doesn't have a whole lot more to get up to speed.

I'm already running 2k3 as a workstation, and have run some of the virtual machines that MS provides. I've still got a bunch of studying to do. But I already knew that. So I haven't just let myself go stale.

I think you're right. And another point after you have traveled in Europe (as have I) is that the dollar is being artificially held stronger than it should, which means it should be truly killer in Europe.

Chris, there are two minds out there about politics and blogs. If you are an A-lister, you're probably right. You could blog, but it needs to be a separate blog. But if you're not an A-lister, say Rand Simberg of http://www.transterrestrial.com/, that's probably a different thing. I read Rand for his space insight, but boy do I have to suffer through his political stuff. And he's OK with mixing the two. And yes, I've thought about transferring him from my Space folder to my Politics folder in Bloglines many a time.

And then there's me at the end of tail. I rant about whatever, the cats, the car, the computer, and the idiots that I see out there. I wanted to be a tech blog, but I seem to be coming across more as a political blog. Shrug.

I know that the Fed has been out of control since the inflation driven 70's, when it was obvious to my teenaged mind that the high rates back then were inflationary in themselves. But that's not an issue I'm paying any attention to myself. The war, the budget and health care are my big buttons right now. And I've only been blogging about the war, so you figure it out.

I have an issue with Google and Firefox. If I do a search under Google, there is some kind of javascript that that pegs the CPU (I'm double threaded so the computer isn't quite dead) and then finally times out. Under IE7 or Safari, no problem. I've tried the Javascript debugger, but whatever it is, it won't even let the debugger touch it. Gmail, Blogger and other Google properties aren't an issue. And it really only hits some of the time, but when that percentage is over 50, and it is, it's a pain. But when the javascript times out and I cancel, the page is fine.

I ran into this with Greasemonkey some time ago. It was nice, but when pages where taking 10s of seconds to load with a bunch of CPU taken up, I decided to uninstall it, and things went back to snappy for me.

But I've installed it on other computers, and they never have the problems that I've seen.

Considering for at least a couple of days, my Twitter home page is static, and only updates when I want to, that's still at the web 1.0 level.

I've only had to give a deposition about two employees that I was supervising at the time. A rape case no less. After having no credibility on both sides after that, I moved myself to another non-supervisory position, and moved on with my life. Yeah, like you get training for that kind of crap.

My bought a 2000 Saturn LS, first year for that model. First strike. The interior after six months wasn't in great shape, but 4 kids probably had more to do with that. My new Hyundai is almost a year old, and while not immaculate, it certainly is still in better shape. But that's with two kids. :/ Not a strike, but an observation. My old '90 Grand Marquis had a similar destruction of it's interior once I moved in.

After the warranty ran out, things started going bad. A/C compressor blew, requiring a replacement. Due to cost, we didn't go with the factory compressor, nor with the dealer. Problem was, there were three different parts for the one part that did have to come from the dealer, with absolutely no way of determining which one it was. Yep, it took three tries (and each one the dealer had to order) to get the right part. Strike two. If you have to engineer three different parts for apparently no reason (I really don't want to know why), then I certainly have my qualms.

Various recalls, including the last one where the back lights have to be replaced because when you turn the lights on, the brake lights behave irregularly. We reported this problem three years before they finally decided to do the recall.

It's a manual transmission. Currently it's fine around town, but driving it on the Interstate is a problem because the clutch refuses to engage (evidently because it's too hot) when trying to exit the highway. It may (or may not) be an issue with the slave cylinder for the clutch. 14 hours of time to tear apart, fix if possible, and then put back together, over $1000 just to maybe fix that. Strike three.

I really wanted to replace the Saturn before I replaced the Grand Marquis, even though it had 100,000 more miles on it. But the A/C compressor was shot in it, and it had developed it's second short, the first of which the person who thought it wouldn't be a big deal, finally broke down and just rewired the problem wire.

So we donated it, and bought a new Hyundai, based on others reports of others who rented them on a regular basis, and more research on the web. We've been extremely happy with it. It is a fun car to drive, but not as fun I'm sure as your BMW. I used to drive a Merkur Scorpio, and that was a fun thing to drive, especially on the curves.

Evidently I'm strange. Of course, I tried aggregate reades a few years before. On dial up, it really sucked, as all of a sudden, page loads would start crawling, because the aggregator decided to grab all of the updates, and proceeded to suck all my available bandwidth away from me.

Which is probably one reason why I'm really hooked on Bloglines, and web-based aggregators. I'm not sucking all that bandwidth through my system. Updates that I don't care about, not my bandwidth/problem.
