To comment that Guitar Hero is just a game is to miss the point of the article. It is not so much to complain about Guitar Hero, but what it's a symptom of.

And as for real guitar taking too much time? Many people spend more time playing guitar hero than it would take to get good at playing a real guitar.

Again--that's all part of a symptom, and Guitar Hero is one of the manifestations of that symptom--it is nto a cause ro a diesease of it's own.

I have more than one guitar, but I'm not sure I have a "go-to" It depends on my mood, and why I'm picking up a guitar. So electric? Acoustic? Humbuckers? Single Coils? Everything else being equal--especially if it's just to noodle around on--either my Mustang--because it's easy to play, & sounds great, or my Les Paul--because it sounds great or...

What would be wrong with playing metal on that Ibanez Artist?
That doesn't seem out of place. It might for a guitarust who uses lots of whammy bar, but for those who don't--it would work.

By the way though, I am playing the guitars I love.

Santana has a certain tone nobody else gets, and a distinctive phrasing.

Albert King put more in one note than anybody. I once had the TV on, but wasn't really watching, but half listening to a white guy playing a blues solo, it was good, but not "WOW" good. Then he ended his solo, and I heard one note--I immediately focussed on the TV--it was Albert King--I knew that from one note.

Glenn Kaiser--you may never have heard of him--but he's got a style I can pick out.

Most of the time, they don't include Canada either, and if they do include other countries you are responsible for taxes and duty, etc, etc.
Depending on the giveawy you could still wind up paying for a big chunk of the prize's value--but still...

And not everybody will think you're the best if you win, and if you don't win--some will still think you;re the best.

As a guitar student I was in a few similar competitions. In most of them, the band I was in didn't do well enough to win, but my last year--we did--we kicked major butt. Everybody seemed to think we would in. People I didn't know were coming up to me and raving about our band. Even the band that won it all thought we'd win. Well as that last comment reveals---we didn't win--we didn't even finish second or third! We came in fourth. So I guess we blew everybody away except the judge. I was disappointed--I thought we'd place second at worst, but then I remembered the reactions of all the other people--so maybe we didn't win it in the judge's eyes--but we won it in the people's hearts--and in some ways--that was better--and it did give me a boost.

I used that lesson I learned when I taught guitar years later. When students were disappointed to lose or nervous that the judge wouldn't like them, I reminded them that the results were one person's opinion on that day, at that time. The next day someone else may have won. I did have students who won--and I celebrated with them. I did have bands that didn't, that I felt the same way about as my band. But that experience helped--and it helped my students as well. Some came back the next year and played even better. I never got that chance as the year I learned the lesson was my last year to compete as a student.

When "One" came out I heard the song so many times--I got sick of it. You'd walk into a music store and you'd hear 2 or 3 kids just ruining the riff as well. It was a case of "One" overload---maybe the list's compilers felt the same way.

I've never been a big Bon Jovi fan, but Sambora's solo stuff isn't too bad--I'm not a big fan of it either--but it's miles ahead of the Bon Jovi stuff.

What's it matter? I don't care if they play it note for note live or play something completely different or anything in between--as long as they make it work. Sometimes the studio version solo is lame--and it's a good thing they change it.

I used to teach guitar, and one of the best guitarists I taught was a girl. She developed her own classical/latin/pop hybrid style. I had more boy students than girls-probably because more boys play guitar--but the girls held their own for the most part.

Rowan Atkinson usually makes me laugh. I love Black Adder--especially the 3rd Series. And the latest Mr Bean movie was actually quite good. This bit is not only funny--but a mster display of timing.

You kind of overdid some of the clues, but then I believe I'm older than you--and many of them I knew just from the name & didn't need the clue--still this sort of stuff is fun. I wouldn't mind seeing more.

And I know a lot of music trivia, more so from the 60's & 70's than later--but some of that too

2) Bono--knew by the name alone

3) Alice Cooper--knew by the name alone

4) Buddy Holly-knew by the name alone

5) Yngwie Malmsteen

6) Freddie Mercury-knew by the name alone

7) Iggy Pop-knew by the name alone

9) Nikki Sixx (mostly a guess based on the clue.)

Ive always been interested in other stringed instruments than the guitar and its permutations--but 12 string & bass is about it for me as far as playing--but listening?

While the idea of a guitar that can sound like several others is a cool idea--and hopefully yours will work--One thing I like about playing different guitars is not just the sound--but the feel. Playing a guitar with a different feel makes me play differently than I would play another guitar--and that helps develop my style and abilities--so even if I had a guitar that could sound like any other guitar--I would still play other guitars--at least for tha reason.

Still--if it works--cool!
