in How Cal Lost in The Rose Bowl, Part III on Bears Necessity
Great analysis, Avinash. If Tedford and/or Cignetti haven't already addressed this, I'd be shocked. But, I'm actually glad Tedford's policy is to keep such weaknesses between him and his players. That's how it is in the real world and should be unless they're breaking the law. Sorry fans who think they're entitled to every tidbit! As well, it should be a clear indicator to Tedford that he can't handle multiple duties with limited sleep, as it appears that he didn't help Nate correct this last year. I'm no expert, and I saw it... Go Bears!

in How Cal Lost in the Rose Bowl, Part I on Bears Necessity
Did Longshore ever look off his primary receiver Desean to Jordan or the otherside of the field on that play? In the second and third frame, his head is turned to the right side of the field. I don't recall the outcome of the play, but the safeties would only have to follow his eyes to know where the ball is going. So, it isn't only a fact of delivering a strike to Desean, but keeping the safeties honest. I saw this too many times from my seats in Section I and on TV in pressure situations with Nate. It has me wondering if Tedford ever recognized this major flaw due to his lack of sleep. Hopefully, he does see it with his new regiment of sleep and rectifies the situation.

in It’s Okay to Be Selfish on Bears Necessity
Selfishness? When did selfishness become a virtue? Monty isn't selfish, because he wants to be the primary TB. College is about opportunity, and if the opportunity that you seek isn't there, it would be utter stupidity to hang around. Monty is actually exhibiting wisdom. However, he is misguided on how he handles it.

The real issue is that Monty is stuck in his childhood, and he doesn't know it. Everyone comes to a point in life, where they need to stand up and be their own. Monty failed to do this when he was 18. Now, he is still exhibiting a childlike behavior by measuring his success by emotions. This is a dangerous road, and many people are taken heavy meds for they have never found happiness down it.

If I were a Division I school coach, and I read what Monty said to J.O. about feelings, I'd pass on him in a heart beat. My guess is Monty will be heading to a division II school, and he will regret his decision. Live and learn! But, there's a lot of common sense from the collective human experience that is sound and worthy of reflection in one's personal life.
