Foreigner don't need to buy up US exports. They can buy up companies, rip out their IP and shift production back home. Bribe politicians, etc.

You can get leverage a lot of ways. One way is swaptions, ie, options to enter into an interest rate swap. It's great to use Tim/Larry's lax derivative rules against them.

Hahaha, ok, thanks. But speculating in equities is dangerous, unless if you just continue to buy SPYs everyday, then the market just magically continues to float up. Or maybe I should take out a home equity loan and go for IYR. LOL.

"How in the hell are they going to EXPECT to earn 25% ROE in a market that has already risen 40%. Has this already happened? Interesting thoughts though, always good to try and understand the whole picture."
Leverage.

Can you explain that? Are we talking about margin plays on positions they know are going to shoot up? You can game the interest rate differentials, but are they comfortable enough doing that in equities? That's a pretty scary game to play.

Debt vs equity conflicts are coming to roost in private equity, due to their purchases of LBO debt last year.

"Pimco says "Rate hikes will be some time coming" [Or else we need to find a greater fool for several hundred billion of treasuries and agencies]"
Funny. Pimco is trying to persuade fools to buy treasuries and agencies by saying they don't expect rate hikes.

Krugman is going to get as crappy a reputation at economic forecasting as Greenspan. He's predicting the recession will be over by September. He needs to lay off the green shoots, and taper back to beer.

Starwood announced its using IPO proceeds to make CMBS purchases from the PPIP. I wonder if Starwood buys from Hilton at 2xfmv, and Hilton buys from Starwood at 2xfmv, and joe six pack eats the losses via nonrecourse financing from his good old uncle sam to the "buyers".

And don't forget the Fed's likely to sell its assets as soon as its bought enough off the biggest banks that they can handle a fire sale. Win win, isn't it: Slams the competitors of the biggest banks, and sterilizes the Fed's money printing to prevent too much inflation/dollar weakening.

if you do watch the European Champions League, you'll notice that all 3 English clubs and only 1 Spanish team went to the semis. That in itself speaks volume of the English Premier League.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored 42 goals playing as a midfielder in one of (if not) the best league in the world, enduring all those abuse wherever he played after that world cup incident. I think that clearly qualifies as a comeback.

way to TOTALLY miss Marvin's point Howie.
I assume you weren't a soccer fan when ronaldo was dominating the world stage and when he got his career-breaking injuries and yet still came back and ended up being top scorer in world cup history.
Don't throw your cristiano fan stats 101 at marvin and think cristiano made a 'comeback' because he 'scored 42 goals...best league in the world, enduring all those abuse'.
What abuse? So because Cristiano didn't break down and shrivel up into a fetal position from the english media bashing him qualifies as a great comeback? Listen Howie, no one is denying cristiano's skills, but that is no comeback.
He's also young, unlike Zidane's comeback in the 06 world cup when everyone said age had caught up to him and past his prime and came back(with his new hairstyle) to almost lead France to winning the world cup.
If you want to see comebacks, you might want to look beyond your Cristiano posters and at more experienced veterans/legends or atleast people who went through HORRIFIC injuries(eduardo n cisse come to mind) not some pretty boy diver that goes down at the slightest nudge and call that a comeback.
Please, atleast read the post before you reply to it. Marvin even agrees with u that the EPL is possibly the best league right now and agrees Cristiano's got tremendous talent, yet you throw the '42 goals' at him like it proves anything...

People want to talk about earnings. I just laugh. If you have access to the data on corporation's income for tax purposes, it sucks worse than earnings, and generally, when that happens book earnings fall to where tax earnings are.
