Absolutely. About four or so years ago, I was really considering moving to MT or WP, but simply couldn't because of the rigors I'd have to go thru trying to export six years (at the time) worth of blog posts.

in HOW TO: Add Facebook Connect to Your Blog in 8 Minutes on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Yeah, I don't know. Compared to Google Friend Connect, this is ridiculously complex. Every time I keep considering switching my personal blog from Friend Connect to FB Connect, I look at a howto and determine that I just don't have the time to do it.
As compared to Google Friend Connect, which literally took me all of five minutes.

The only problem with this (and again, not a problem for most people) is that a javascript provides no Google juice.
It's amazing, once you install lifestreaming of any kind on your personal domain, how much your search engine traffic increases.

Perhaps so. I like php and asp scripts for this sort of thing better because I enjoy the full degree of control you get with that, but a lot of non-developers would probably better enjoy working in a framework like WordPress that they know better.

Indeed, Aaron - and I didn't mean to imply you guys were dead - but the emails from you that told me how quickly you developed the latest feature that FriendFeed had have tapered off this year. Seems like you've been carving out a bit of your own community more recently rather than going after FriendFeed's.
In that vein, keep it up!

Yahoo Pipes is an essential part of the lifestreaming I have going on at rizzn.com, but I find the main problem with pipes is the incredible lagtime. Changes sometimes take the better part of a day to show up in the RSS feeds, and occasionally they disappear altogether.
I think it's a great tool to prototype things with, but a lousy production tool.

The comments thus far have proven just as inconclusive as I initially imagined they'd be.
Seems to be a really even split between CREEPY and HILARIOUS.
although, Brady, I hafta say that the egg-man ad you pointed is disturbing as hell.

This actually isn't a new technology from Nokia, although this particular site is new.
Back in 1999, i worked in the Consumer Internet Marketing division of Nokia, and we designed a similar applet in Java to create custom covers for those old soap-bar style phones.
This one looks a lot slicker, though, I'm diggin' that brushed aluminum look.

All it takes is one law enforcement official with a vendetta. This case proved that jurisdiction isn't an issue and the meaning of Computer Fraud can be false profiles. Pissing off any law enforcement official who can then find out what sort of profiles you've created online opens you up for legal prosecution. Even if you're Kevin Rose.

What about child abuse laws? There was certainly emotional abuse going on. What about harassment? Stalking laws?
There are any number of laws on the books that could have been more accurately applied. All this ruling does is open anyone and everyone up to arbitrary and capricious enforcement.

What she was convicted of has no bearing on whether or not she inflicted emotional damage. She was convicted of the "crime" of violating a ToS.
It isn't hyperbole to show how this ruling will be misapplied.

Even if it emerges as a SuperTwitter in 2009, why would I use it?
Twitter is a tool who needs to have the goal of being integrated everywhere else. It is *not* a destination site, particularly for those with stuff to do. They realized that initially with the API and the XMPP stream.
When they took away XMPP and rendered useless for many the API, they crippled their usefulness. Even if the Sandy code is vastly upgraded and made grade-a awesome, I'm not going nearly as likely to switch to a web interface or even a client engineered for viewing twitterstreams.
It isn't a comfortable UI experience for that sort of interaction. With a concept like Sandy, the idea is that it MUST BE CONVENIENT, or it's useless.

Not to be crass, but the sad reality is that most of us geeks (i.e., journalists on tech publications like Mashable and NewTeeVee) spend much time doing physical activity, much less time on body building websites - hence the lag time to coverage on this one.
Folks that were close to Abraham might have been in a better position to help than those he corresponded with on the forum, and would have actually cared. I know that of the dozens or more trolls I interact with on a daily basis, I've never taken the time to find out if suicidal feelings were the root cause of their antagonistic behavior.

It wasn't my intention to characterize SL as a place only for sex...
.. but SL did take a certain approach to segregating, rather than censoring, unsavory elements that works for the system. Google decided it'd be better to ban it altogether, which was a mistake.

That isn't exactly true. First of all, WoW has a larger purpose that's intrinsic to it's design. Lively has very little intrinsic to it's design other than idle chatter, which leads naturally to the very topics prohibited by the system.
Not to mention, IMVU is based on exactly the same concept but has no problems staying in business *and* relegating the undesirable stuff to separate sections.
