I appreciate apple don't promote it as a PDA but once it's jallbroken it really does become a different animal!

Re: Typical Mac User Podcast » Mac OSX Remote Login Access Screencast Part 1

Thank you Victor and George, you are plugging a big gap here, nobody seems to have tackled this potentially thorny subject in such an easy to follow way! It would to know how this compares with off the shelf VPN solutions like Logmein etc. Presumably a VNC session over VNC would be far smoother than a logmein session?

Anyway, roll on the next 7 episodes!

Re: TMUP 154: Remote Access your Mac Today

And folks, don't forget logmein! Like VNC but on steroids, uses 256 bit encryption, cross platform and absurdly easy to set -up, and the basic version is free. I've been accessing my mac at home from my PC at work for 2 years which is behind a very secure government firewall.

It doesn't need any port configuration as it uses https, has some very clever features like reducing the colour content and resizing on the fly and can be accesses from virtually any browser, especially handy if you are travelling and using a public computer. I believe there is even a iPhone\Touch beta version now too.

https://secure.logmein.com/products/free/Defaul...

Cheers

Re: Typical Mac User Podcast » Asus eeePC and OS X…How I did it

Hi Victor, could you confitm if WiFi works OK in OS X mode on the Asus please?

Re: TMUP 154: Remote Access your Mac Today

To pat putnam - yep, you arn't getting it. Screen sharing is not encrypted which means you'd need to open port 5900, not usually possible in a Hotel or WiFi hotspot. You'd need to use SSH as George suggests or a web based ap like Logmein so that your traffic was secure.

Re: Krak demands money because site linked to them

Assuming this is true then the GIS industry needs to get it's act together fast on stuff like this, it is just so out of touch with reality at times.

He needs to switch to Google Maps, A few months ago I sat in on an an imprerssive demo by them at Max Expo in London showing how virtually anyone could embed google maps on to their web site for free.
