The connection is that each film netted the main actor his first Best Actor Oscar, although Denzel had previously won Best Supporting for Glory.

Thanks for the linkage, Jandy. Hopefully the writing will live up to your expectations and do justice to the incredible films being written about.

in Review: Alien vs. Predator: Requiem on Film-Book dot Com
I think the only legitimate tack to take when reviewing a film like this is to make fun of it. There are so many holes and simple errors of logic, not to mention pathetic writing and storytelling, that you can simply sum it up with the words, "The whole thing sucks." These reviews can be the most entertaining to write sometimes, though. :)

I have to stop looking at clips like this - I already know I want to see this film, and with the multiple trailers, Super Bowl spot, and various TV ads running constantly, I feel like I've seen the entire film already. Kind of waters down the actual theatrical experience, in my estimation.

Jandy, so glad you stumbled into our little corner of the internet. You're right - it's amazing how a film set 20 years ago in a completely foreign country can resonate with us in such a sublime, human way. Recent films like this, The Band's Visit, and The Lives of Others continue to stun me with the universality of the human condition. It's not a stretch to think that if films like these - compassionate, insightful, real - could find a wider audience, the world would be a better place and people would spend a lot less time killing one another than they do now.

That looks very intriguing. I'm a fan of good anime, and combining that with Batman seems like a natural choice. Hopefully the divergent styles (looks like they have 6 different segments) won't clash with one another too much. I found the Matrix Anime DVD suffered from that.

I noticed you docked 10,000 another point. :)
As to our contact info, its derrickec@yahoo.com for now. That is one of the many things that need to be changed ASAP, but since we're a relatively new blog, I haven't gotten to it yet.

in 5 Essential Anime Films you need to View Pt.2 on Film-Book dot Com
Thanks for the comments, Reginald. I'm quite the anime fan myself, although I typically can't stand the derivative big-robot style stuff. Spirited Away should certainly be #1 - perfect pick there (Miyazaki's best). The only one I haven't seen on your list is Golgo.

On Satoshi Kon, have you had a chance to see Paranoia Agent (his 13 episode series) or Paprika yet? They are equally fantastic. He's one of my favorite anime auteurs.

This isn't a movie, but every anime fan I ever encounter I recommend Monster to. It is, quite simply, one of the most amazing creations I have ever encountered, a perfect blend of The Omen and The Fugitive.

Looking forward to the second part of your list.
