In my opinion, the single most defining thing about a "blog" is that it allows interaction. So disabling comments as a policy makes it simply a website using a cms.

Yeah, these big sites aren't blog anyway, yet people still keep calling them that. Your blog is a blog. Techcrunch is a business. Etc... Big difference.

Hmm, yeah, Steve you could have thought of something better eh? I mean, how often does a blogger get a one on one with Gates, with a month to prepare.

Are you saying in the UK you can't just let someone go even if you "just feel like it"? And in Michael's case, that doesnt sound like what he did.

I'm a publisher as well of a much smaller online journal (ReveNews). If my writers were paid employees, which they aren't so this is all conjecture, I think I would have done the same thing.

Ok, but how does Google know if the content is paid if PPP doesn't require disclosure?

I suppose they could just look at the list of PPP advertisers and flag them, otherwise, how else? Can you imagine getting your entire brand banned outta Google just because of your associate to PPP?

What are you gonna do though? Fight Google? By then, it's too late?

Thanks for the mention Sam. We literally "just" released this today, not even officially. The only thing to add to your write up is the "why we try to compare to Adsense".

We're targeting the long tail, in other words, the 69.9999 million blogs out of 70 million that get maybe 100 visitors/day to their blog... who aren't marketers, they just know how to blog. My research has shown that those people make a penny a day from Adsense, if they're lucky.

I don't think I need to convince any readers on this site on the cpa low-traffic = better odds at $$$ over CPC argument, do I? :)

Also, why isn't anyone talking about how this is going to be tough to do because it's essentially a lotto, right? It's my understanding that their are strict guidelines on lotteries, even if your living in the UK. Anyone?

yeah, I agree with you Matthew. He's going to ride this wave for at least another half a million. I'm very dissapointed in the idea though. I was hoping that his next thing would be original, not pixel related. Pixels are so played, no?

So what happens when you switch jobs, or a virus deletes your C drive and you have no bookmarks? How do you visit the site then if you don't easily know the address?

Or what about when you're at a party chatting with someone and you say, "Hey, I just read about that at this great blog. What was the name? I know it, I just have it bookmarked. Oh well."

Your blog is your brand.
