in Last.fm to Start Charging International Users on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Bugger... So again us Aussies get shafted. This is starting to piss me off. I use last.fm a fair bit. I would consider paying for the service but as a matter of principle, I think that if the US, UK and Germany get it for nothing, then so should the rest of us.

Thanks for nothing, CBS.

Great post Chris, I really enjoyed it.
I think thats where I am right now, trying to connect with people from all walks of life that share some common interest. I am mainly using Twitter for this, I find facebook and linkedin a little heavy for lite chit chat. It makes it so much cooler when they are from somewhere near you also.
Thanks!

in HOW TO: Add Facebook Connect to Your Blog in 8 Minutes on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Very cool. Makes me want to make a wordpress plugin to do this. :)
Oh, I note no 'connect' button here when posting my comment either... hmmmm ...

Josh McHugh Great point.

Question: anyone know of some sites that have implemented both FBconnect and GFC? If so, care to list a few? I'd love to see a side-by-side usage comparison. Hard as FBC is to implement relative to GFC, the Techcrunch implementation made FBC seem really attractive from a usage standpoint.

I think its funny how people are so trusting... Especially of a site that looks like it was built by a 10 year old and asks for your password. The first tweets of 'twiterank is tweeting from my account' started a few hours ago and seem to be getting more regular.

Funny stuff.

in Survey: Gas Prices Force Consumer Change on EcoTech Daily
People need to stop taking their cars for granted. I for one am a fan of the rising petrol prices and I dont want them to drop. This is because people have always used their cars as though they made no environmental impact at all. I have sold my pride and joy (a 97 R33 GTR for you car guys) because of many reasons but a contributing reason was its lack of efficiency (300 k's from 65L which is ~ 200mi from 17g). I have bought a motorbike for commuting some days and I work from home and get the bus the other days. This is a permanent change in developed countries' behaviour.

$4 a Gallon in the states? Thats about 75% of what it costs in Australia (Considering the exchange rate is almost dollar-for-dollar and we are paying $1.60+ per litre and there are 4 litres to a gallon, thats $6.40 per gallon here. Lets not bring up EU prices!). Either way, I love the rising petrol prices, its about time people started thinking twice about driving everywhere.

That Geoengineering story scares the bejesus out of me. When will we realise we cannot play god?

Well, if iPhones were available in Australia, i'd probably have one over my iPod and it would likely see the light on more occasions, but alas...

The idea of a solar (assisted) powered device like an iPod seems a little odd to me as, unless I am sitting on a bus, my iPod spends its entire life in my pocket or in my bag... Not much solar in either of those places.

in Potty Tech: Which Is Greener, Toilet Paper Or A Bidet? on EcoTech Daily
This reminds me of some slow-witted people that I work with that walk into our disabled toilet instead of the traditional one (they are in the same 'room' but the disabled one is at the back) because the disabled one has a paper hand dryer dispenser and the normal one has the hot-air blowing thingo.

On another note, the Australian Tasmanian forests are soon to be obliterated by pulp mills. Gotta love them money hungry loggers.

And as a final word, we used to have a bidet in my old house. They are awful, horrible, extremely uncomfortable devices for self-mutilating individuals. Just use less (recycled) toilet paper and only flush when you *need* to.

in Old School CleanTech: How to Bike to Work on EcoTech Daily
I have been considering doing this for a while now. I work about 32k's (umm, 14 miles off the top of my head) from home and I currently get the bus to work. I'm not sure if I could make it the whole way initially, but I plan to give it a go soon.

shabaz, I partially agree with you. I think $100 (I'm assuming USD, so ~$115 AUD) is a stupid amount of money to pay for a charger, especially when the article says it can replace my phone charger (which retails for about $15).

I also agree that 'green' is a marketing tool and that they post things to look cool, but even if people are buying these products for the wrong reasons (ie cool gadgets) then it is still a good thing, right? A lot of people get suckered in to the current green-hype surrounding, well, everything these days and while I think that most of them should sit back and look at why we need to be green and what they can do to help, if they buy something out of impulse that actually helps the environment, then go the greens for selling good products to ignorant assholes.

I dont agree that this site is a marketing tool. The article the other day on here about the Korean town running entirely on solar power isn't marketing anything. What it does is revive hope that there are people out there making a difference.

Nice one.
We have a fairly cheap power meter available in Australia (http://preview.tinyurl.com/5cx7tj) that I use at home. But this looks great also!
