in Social media: data versus interface on The Equity Kicker
I had a mull over this with respect to Twitter a few weeks on my blog and suggested that Twitter is in a difficult monetisation space as its own share of traffic generated in Twitter (i.e. the amount of traffic through a proprietary interface) is low and falling. If they do nothing about this then they will be forced to monetise through selling access to its API. This seems a "fair" exchange - and arguably the one likely to see the most success - but would certainly redefine the modus operandi in the web 2.0 world of free exchange.

in New LCC Mobile Site on Lucas County Choppers
Thanks for the post. Links are coming! It's not trivial though. I don't believe there is a workable alternative right now.

Micah That is the only issue that I saw. I'm glad that you are working on
developing the link functionality.

The site renders well on the phone.

Thanks for the comment and for the service!!

in Open-ness in the mobile value chain on The Equity Kicker
thought provoking as usual. You highlight an important faultline in the genius of Steve Jobs. This closed position is also highlighted in the lack of willingness to disaggregate hardware from software in key instances. iTunes would arguably be more far reaching if accessible from other devices e.g. the G1, rather than indirectly boosting competition through Amazon. It's a pity because his legacy will be limited as a result. (via Mippin Mobile)

I'm guessing Mr Operator doesn't work for T-Mobile

2 - please cut the elevator music out!!!

Ewan I wasn't meant to be in it ;-) but the two chaps bottled it and insisted...
so I was in Friday-gear.

I don't think that elevator music is that bad. It helps cover the screaming
geese, who, despite the different levels we tried on the air mic, could
*still* be heard.

in Mobilize your site for free with Mowser, FeedM8 or Mippin Maker on S60 ONLINE Blog
Your point on external feeds is a good one and we will be turning this capability on in the next few weeks. It has actually been a challenging piece of work to do this and protect the user experience but we are nearly there.

Thanks for the feedback

in Offsetting the costs of free SMS? - RussellBeattie.com on Russell Beattie's Blog Forum
Hi Russ, the biggest difference between the US and Europe in this instance is that in Europe the user receiving the SMS gets this for free - the sender is the one that pays for it. The cost of terminating the SMS on the carrier network is between 2p-5p depending on your wholesale deal (this used to be 10x the US cost - but my data is around 3 years out of date and it might be different now). In the US, as I understand it, it is the receiver that pays for the SMS (this raises different responsibility issues) and thus the sender need not be overly concerned about abuse in the first instance..
