While it might be remarkable to some; I found it very boring and actually could not watch more than 1 minute. Smart marketing nonetheless.

in Why Twitter Mobile Apps Don’t Interest Me on danny brown - social media pr and marketing
i hear ya on the bad manners part. it is like people are disinterested. i normally wont tweet when having dinner, but i will do it in a casual social setting. especially if it does not take away from what is happening in that social circle.

i use it as an opportunity to educate/convert people ;)

Danny Now that I can see as a benefit, and one of the pros of mobile apps in general. :)

You are being idealistic.

I hear your point but this is the world we now live in. Mobile apps rock when i am in stuck in traffic, at the airport, having a beer with friends, or just laying at the beach.

You are insinuating that you cant be effective connector and multitask. Some people can, some people can't.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Cheers!

Danny Hey there Rodney,

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, appreciate it.

I don't think it boils down to insinuations of non-effective multi-tasking; it's about the personal and human approach. Tweeting (or texting) while in company isn't multi-tasking, it's simply bad manners.

I think there's a definite difference.

Cheers :)

in How Twitter Was Born on 140 Characters
Great detail of the birthing and history associated with Twitter and their growth. I have been on twitter for over 2 years and followed what they were doing at odeo as we were in the same space with another podcast hosting company that i own.

Twitter has become a phenom and a new communication form and channel that is here to stay. How you use it is up to you entirely. Its beauty is in its simplicity. It is moldable and malleable to many use cases.

in My Social Media System on Duct Tape Marketing
John,
Great post. Your post should help people manage the process and get them thinking about what matters most.

Having a process is critical or you will drown in the social river. I have set up a number of automated scripts for listening. Another option is custom persistent search queries across multiple social platforms that act as alert mechanisms. (these can all be done with free tools) PING!

Decide which eco-systems are of the most relevance and decide on a process for listening, response and interaction.

Listening is the first step for brand reputation, marketing, topic convo discovery, connections, etc.

Once you know how to efficiently listen it becomes infinitely easier to engage, start conversations and be responsive in a timely manner that does not suck your time.

Some efficiency and listening details are outlined in a chapter in my book: Twitter as a Business Tool.

in Thanks Mike Arrington for taking us off the rails into Twitter idiot land on Scobleizer
"There aren’t enough smart people so you gotta create some drama to pull in the idiots"

I think it might be time to lower my standards and create some drama. ;) Great post Robert.

This whole idea that followers = "Authority" is ludicrous. to make my point I became an "Authority" on Mercedes convertibles and honey baked ham to have some fun with this fundamentally flawed concept of twitority.

Here is a screen shot with some notes. http://twitpic.com/xeio

in Motrin Faces Twitter Headache Over New Video Campaign on Marketing Pilgrim
Andy,

I am not sure who it represents. The real story here is not whether I agree; rather the conversation velocity and Motrin conversation snowball enabled by twitter.

See a powerpoint slide here. http://twitpic.com/mb48

Will be in my upcoming twitter book.

Chris,
Nice Post! You forgot about setting up an analytic package.

Most importantly you never mentioned what the objectives were for the team and the specific tactical steps required to start engaging.

in The Well Funded Layoff on Scobleizer
Robert,
Great blog post. Smart entrepreneurs are going to do exactly what Loic and Seesmic did. Cut out non core services.

This is a tough call with all CEO's. Especially with startups; you feel so connected to every employee who has believed in your vision.

I understand his pain; but in the long run it is the right thing to do. Conserve as much cash as possible and try to innovate when no one else is.

Let's all try to keep the faith! This too shall pass.

in What Social Media Does Best on Chris Brogan
Chris,
Boil it down to this fundamental and broad reaching statement.

"Social Media Technologies fundamentally changes the way that people discover information, communicate, and connect. If you think your business does not need these technologies; imagine running your business without a telephone. That is the level of importance that social media technologies will take on to businesses in 5-10 years."

in Threading Some Trends Together on Chris Brogan
People need to realize that they are their own personal brand. It goes with them from employer to employer. Companies and individuals can benefit by brand association.

I am my own brand. I just happen to own a company and have different publishing and distribution vehicles.

Jeremiah is his own brand. Charlene Li is her own brand. Forrester is their own brand; but the intermixing of these talented people and their brands (influence) is great than the sum of the individual parts.

Cheers!

all great ideas robert. people that watch the longer videos self filter and you end up with exactly your deeply engaged audience that is much more disposed to opening their wallet. ;)

in Is Facebook doomed? on Scobleizer
Robert,
I don't think facebook is doomed at all. At it's core facebook is a communication platform. Applications allows new and different forms of communication.

Facebook is the most efficient and effective and egaing social network that i have ever used.

I agree with you... they seriously need to remove the limitations. They also need to be careful about how people are kicked off and the course for reinstatement.

in “What’s your audience size?” is wrong question on Scobleizer
Robert,
It is about creating conversations and reaching multiple points of gravity. Gravity causes people to move and pulls objects toward it(readers & other bloggers).

It is not how many people you reach... rather... how many people of influence (that you care about) do you reach.

Nice blog post.
