in Kensington’s “Toxic” Sign Divides Community on San Diego Uptown News
I strongly disagree that the new sign will be embarrassing in a few years. Heck, I'm embarrassed at the current sign - refurbished or not. It's just plain ugly. Period. We're simply dealing with differing opinions at this point, and that's o.k. It's America after all....
As for the river rock, it's already a part of Kensington seen on many posts.
Also - having worked with lead based paint clean up for several years of my career, I would encourage us all to stay away from talking about the subject like we're experts. From the posts, it's apparent we're not.

I'm really curious with this comment. If "old" is replaced by "new" does that mean Kensington has lost "character", or does it simply mean that some residents don't approve of "new" while others do?

Please explain how this could make so many servings. There are only 3 cups of liquid in this recipe and it would not fill a punch bowl. What is missing?

Wonder how many of these meds were originally paid for by taxpayers via city welfare or medicaid!

By redacted you mean removed?
I can tell you this, welfare pays for more that one of the apartments the bust happened in. It was the second bust. I see no mention of that. Are these turning in the bigger fish? Funny thing, the place is hopping again. Three busts there this year, and it is opening operating within hours.
If it is the same bust. 5ish, on a Tuesday? Full swat team? Or is that one not the same one?
Funny you might say they can't get a job. Having gang tattoos, and clothes, and hairdos might actually be career limiting. Chicken, or the egg? Love knowing they are getting section 8 housing, food stamps, and that, and we are busting our nuts trying to make ends meet, with them ruining our community and property value. The strung out junkies rummaging through our cars and leaving pit bull poop all over the sidewalks and parks.
Yeah, because they can't get a job.

To Steve,
Ooh! So sad. So you didn't just lose one family member. So sad. I'll pray for you and your family.

As far as lead and signs, you are free to comment on your background, but please don't guess at mine. I have not only removed lead paint but have used it, in the course of my regular job, and on restoring neon sign cans back when "one-shot" still had lead in every color. I was collecting big neon signs back in the early '80s and saw dozens of the old ones in person, and visited and spoke to the old-timer sign guys back when NO new neon was being done, except for backlighting. I have a shelf of pre-War signpainting and paint technology books and journals as long as your arm, and I've read them all. And, yes, I've been walking, biking, and driving through Kensington for 40+ years.
As far as the old sign being "ugly" It seems like comments such as these are being made after the fact of it being taken down. I don't remember an outcry about this before it was removed, certainly back in 1990 when it was down for a while, everyone wanted it back up as soon as possible. Besides, "historic" and "beautiful" are not synonyms, why do people keep thinking that they should be? Please look at the results of the poll for a good approximation of public opinion.
