Anything else is a distraction.

In my opinion, the most effective way to advertise on Facebook is to create a group focused on a particular topic and to target that group to a specific demographic.

The topic need not be named after the product or service being advertised, necessarily.

Provided the group is well moderated and features relevant and up-to-date information; people will have a reason to hang around and share their opinion. And you’ll get instant feedback...

Kind of sounds like a blog, actually...

Personally, I reckon Facebook should consider offering a monthly subscription for people who don't want to receive Social Ads. At least they are guaranteed some monthly revenue that way.

Here’s the open letter I wrote to Mark Zuckerberg regarding this:

http://http//www.realfresh.tv/hey-facebook-id-g...

I would consider paying...

Re: More Lazy Web Thoughts

Looking forward to hearing your talk later today. It is an offence for Other Parties to obtain this personal data without authorisation.

* Individuals have a right of access to the information held about them, subject to certain exceptions (for example, information held for the prevention or detection of crime).

* Personal information may be kept for no longer than is necessary.

* Personal information may not be transmitted outside the EEA unless the individual whom it is about has consented or adequate protection is in place, for example by the use of a prescribed form of contract to govern the transmission of the data.

* Subject to some exceptions for organisations that only do very simple processing, and for domestic use, all entities that process personal information must register with the Information Commissioner.

* Entities holding personal information are required to have adequate security measures in place. Those include technical measures (such as firewalls) and organisational measures (such as staff training).

Culled from a really comprehensive post on Mashable here:
http://mashable.com/2007/11/09/facebook-asks-ca...

My offer of £7.50 per month for a Facebook subscription without ads now seems a little... foolish. What's the point if agreeing to the Terms of Use mean that the privacy laws designed to protect me above, cannot.

Hmm...

Having said that, it will be interesting to see how Facebook's core demographic take to the ads.

It is quite possible that they might not care.

Re: Bebo: Trying to help TV get social

This is a big deal because Bebo is the UK’s top social networking site, according to comScore:

http://www.comscore.com/press/release.asp?press...

Whilst there are many online TV sites vying for viewers' attention in North America, most large media companies in Europe are still dipping their toes into large scale video distribution on the web.

Open Media fills a big gap in online video distribution for media companies in the UK hence the involvement of established media companies like the BBC, Channel 4 and BSkyB.

I predict more high profile content partnership announcements from Bebo in the near future.

Re: E-Democracy or a missed opportunity? I think you have a point here and have signed with my name and Twitter handle!

Keep up the good work.

Chi-chi Ekweozor
@realfreshtv

Re: 12 Top Social Media Agencies

Fantastic list, Jason.

You left out:

Real Fresh TV | http://www.realfresh.tv

Based in Manchester, UK, we *do* social media with a strong focus on strategy, consultancy and training for the UK’s arts, creative and media sectors.

We helped develop and deliver the social media strategy for Arts Council England’s digital development programme for the arts and cultural sector, www.getambition.com.

Re: @ Ad:Tech: Online Video Creates Its Own Opportunities; NBC Might Revisit YouTube

As suspected, the anti-YouTube fraternity is now discovering that it takes guts, commitment and *lots* of money to build a 206 million strong global community for sharing video online.

Lawsuits notwithstanding...

My prediction is that as YouTube moves towards a 'monetisation' phase, implemented using the Video ID system to filter and even monetize content illegally uploaded by the YouTube community, content owners will start receiving compensation for their work.

And rightly so.

Oprah hasn’t launched a YouTube channel just to ‘kick it with the kids’. She knows there’s money coming ;o)

The question is:
How many media companies will be sneaking quietly back onto YouTube in coming months?

Will be interesting to watch.
