in Massive power line from Quebec to NH gets initial approval on Granite Geek
I don't think it will follow the existing line because from what I've read it is supposed to terminate in NH with a huge converter station. the existing HVDC line that goes through Hudson was built along an existing ROW that is now full and would require taking a number of homes in Hudson. I saw one map showing the new line ending southeast of Manchester. How accurate this map was I don't know

in Rating firm cuts outlook for FairPoint on Nashua Telegraph
They will be losing me directly to Comcast. I was a happly user of Fios but FP's failure to add TV to the service is forcing me to switch to a service which is also cheaper and will give me TV, Phone, and internet in one package.

Your loss will hurt them most. If you have a fiber line to your house that goes dark, that is the loss of a high end customer.

in True Internet-protocol TV over fiber? on Granite Geek
They'll be too late for me. I am in the process of switching my house to comcast, including phone, TV, and internet. We have Fairpoint for internet and phone now and DirectV for TV. The package from Comcast is so much cheaper than the alternative we have now I can't aford to not take it. Its a shame, out house is wired for the next generation communications system (FAST) and it will now be unused. Once I switch there will be no switching back. We have too many TV's and computers in the house to make it worthwhile switching. We are one of the last FairPoint customers on our street. Everyone else has switched to Comcast.

Fred Flynn Stone Comcast may be cheaper but Fairpoint is far superior in customer service. They have people (formerly Verizon) who know what theyre talking about. Comcast has a bunch of cowboys

in Wood Pellet Heating on Granite Geek
Good part of the cost of pellets and other forest renewables is the cost of transportation. As the cost of oil drops so will the cost of pellets. However the cost of delivered pellets right now is $390 per ton which equates to oil at $3.80 per gallon so if you haven't bought pellets yet you're just as well off burning oil.

in Telco sues town over laying fiber on Granite Geek
I read your article today. However , FP's actions in this neighborhood doesn't support what they're saying. New customers are not being told FAST is available and are being connected to DSL. To me that 's saying there really is no commitment to keeping FAST.

in Some faster DSL, and Comcast fights FCC on Granite Geek
That is my point. FAST or Fios is faster than DSL. My question is why fail to tell new customers that its available and just go ahead and connect them to DSL when the fiber optic cable goes right by their house. It doesn't give me a warm feeling about the future of "FAST" in NH.

I had set a 20 gallon aquarium on our picknic table Friday and it had 6 7/8 inches of water in it this morning here in Hudson.

in Some faster DSL, and Comcast fights FCC on Granite Geek
What is going to be the fate of Fios here? My neighborhood in Hudson was wired for Fios over a year ago and Verizon made a big deal of it. Recently we had a couple of people move into the neighborhood and when they hooked up with Fairpoint for internet access they were given DSL service and were never told FIOS was available. This indicates to me Fairpoint has the intention of letting the Fios system just fade away. Also when the new neighbors were connected to the DSL system it was much cheaper than my Fios hookup.
