in Why You Keep Buying Seth Godin’s Books, Even Though You Already Know The Material on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
Very interesting. I've found the same type of thing happening to me while listening to podcasts on the commute to work and back. I've often had to rewind the shows because I'd lost track of what was being said, having been wrapped up in my own thoughts that were inspired from listening.
I've noticed this particularly happening with marketing podcasts. Hmm.

I think one of the reason why Chris has many followers on Twitter and elsewhere is that he's a super-connector. I don't mean to say this to blow smoke up anywhere; it's just a role he's decided to fill.
I don't this it's right to criticize anyone's approach to using a social media tool. I think when we do that - and I have - we're projecting our own insecurity/fear/shadow/etc. onto that person.
I strongly believe that we need to let one another play on the new media playground in a manner we each choose to. What works for one won't work for another.

Like C.C., this caught me off guard. I did enjoy the song at the end of the episode, but I can understand your rationale. There are plenty of other music podcasts to listen to.

in Closed Captioning New Media? on Miscellaneous Uses for a Blog
Ed, I think there is a great opportunity to reach a group of people that would not ordinarily get a message.
As a parent of a child who is hard of hearing, we rely HEAVILY on close-captioning and subtitles. It's become second nature for us to always have the captions on, and our daughter always makes sure we have captions or subtitles on when we watch a DVD.
She has not been that keen on podcasting because it's mostly audio. Even with her hearing aids, she still misses some things.
I would like to know what technology exists that makes producing audio or video with synchronized lyrics or subtitles or captions.
Thanks for getting the conversation going.

in To tweet or not to tweet? Vote for Twitter, Jaiku or Pownce here. on Dave Delaney : Dave Made That
I've never drunk the Pownce kool-aid, and while I was persuaded earlier this year to get on Jaiku, I still stay on Twitter, because that's where most of the conversation and community is.
And I'm an Evan Williams fanboy.

I can see where you're coming from, but I can't say I agree with you completely.
What if the purpose of a blog is to "navel-gaze"; i.e., serve as a "down engine" of sorts? Should someone not blog because others are not interested in that sort of thing?
"An artist's first responsibility is to himself." -- Miles Davis, via QuotesBlog
At the same time, I can see that such a blog will not sustain an audience for very long, so I suppose we need to evaluate the direction for our content. Are we trying to sustain an audience? If so, then I agree wholeheartedly.
Does this make any sense?

in Considering Social Network Etiquette on Chris Brogan
As an early adopter of Twitter, I used to get uptight when I saw the proliferation of '@' messages. Now I get it.
My purpose in using Twitter has changed over the months since I started using it. I now use it to participate in conversation, let others know what's going on with me, point to content too large on Twitter, and make/keep in touch with friends.
I've especially enjoyed finding people in my own geographic area through TwitDir.com, and I hope that I can connect through other online means and even meet up with more friends locally in person.
I've decided to use Twitter and other social networks to for relationship-building and personal branding, so knowing how to "take the pulse" of the current climate of a social network is something of value.

in Why Join Another Social Network on Chris Brogan
In the early days of blogging, before Blogger had its own commenting system, there was a commenting system called YAACS. YAACS stood for Yet Another Commenting System. Probably still exists today - I wouldn't know.
I keep waiting for someone to start YASMN - Yet Another Social Media Network. All of this talk of more places to put oneself online is frustrating. I can definitely understand how it would feel cliquish.
I haven't yet decided what to do with my Pownce invite yet, nor how to develop my Facebook profile. I feel okay about holding off for a bit and using the current tools I'm using.
