My new chair and ottoman just arrived today. I 8-0 the Fairview Seagrass fabric. It looks great with the Fairview Sand sofa I purchased a few months ago. Lots of fun putting it together. Only thing I didn't like was that the box the chair came in was 61 pounds. Didn't it use to come in two boxes? My sofa was easy getting up my second floor apartment by myself, being that it came in three easier to handle boxes. But now I see its down to two. I liked it better when there were more boxes and less weight per package. Otherwise I love my furniture. Keep up the good work Homereserve :-)

My favorite of those songs is The Way You Look Tonight... it's just such a romantic song, and I can't WAIT to hear Harry's version of it.

I'm such a huge fan of HCJ, and have fond memories of getting to see him in concert once.

Those descriptions are spot on. They sound like the people I met in culinary school, too! The character I would add is "I don't work for 'the man'." He's the guy who tells you "I got sick of the rat race after 20 years. So I quit my industry. I make a mean chili, so I figure I'd enroll here and eventually open my own restaurant." This guy will burn out before graduation and change to a business major

So this is the post that finally made me stop, intentionally, and post to you. It has been my intention to say hi for awhile so I am.

I simply love your decorations. They give a nice cozy home feeling even over the computer! The red room is really cool as red is my favorite color but the nativity scene is most beautiful. Those are great, Sara! I am snagging the Be Intentional~ That reminded me of a story I had to share~ A few weeks ago I was heading to an appt and ran through McD's drive through first for a diet coke fix. I was already running behind and they were slow (it is afterall McD's :)) ) I was frustrated, irritated and getting grumpy as I was waiting in the line~then your post popped in my head about having one chance to affect this person at the window. I chose to "be intentional" at that moment and I thank you for that! (I tried to do a link to the actual post but alas, computer savvy I am not!)
It is 13 degrees here in SD, thinking about in IA, hoping it is a little warmer for you!

[OffTopic] Anna, I think you may have missed the point. The harsh reality is that we are working in a male dominated industry. I too am a female working their way up the corporate ladder, and I face sexism and prejudice at every rung. Is it wrong? You bet, which is why we need our champions and our hero's that can prove that this is not a single-sex industry.

Of course there many unsung hero's like ourselves Anna, but if that's the price we have to pay to tip the balance then more power to the Kim's and Carly's of the world.

Nah, it'd probably be like pizza boxes at pizza places, and also probably cheaper than the fully-formed weird boxed one that places like that already use...

I like the design because with that, it seems like the hot coffee in the two cups wouldn't splatter out the sip holes and burn your hand like it often happens to me when I carry one on my own.

As much as I want to feel sympathetic for Gregor and his new embodiment, I believe the main focus is meant to be on the family's transformations. The father had transformed from a fat, clumsy man to "holding himself very erect, dressed in a tight-fitting blue uniform with gold buttons -- his usually rumpled white hair was combed flat, with a scrupulously exact, gleaming part." And I agree the power has shifted from Gregor to "Mr. Samsa." Grete's transformation involves going from Gregor's main caretaker to seeing him as a "monster" and "constant torture." She is the first to accept the new Gregor and the first to say "it" needs to go. Toward the end, she is no longer seen as a child but a young woman. Throughout his metamorphosis, Gregor, in my opinion, is not treated properly. He helped his family financially and was planning on sending Grete to music school. He had loved them and treated them with respect. When he needed the help, he was treated like a disgrace to the family. For some reason I do not understand, Kafka made Gregor's death lift a burden off the family. The death of Gregor allowed the family to finally be happy.

Yeah, goals do have an interesting way of morphing and evolving. It's never a straight shot from point A to point B, more like a meander. I figure the process of working towards a goal helps to clarify that goal and even change it into something that makes the most sense to you or that may even surprise you. All your goals sound very do-able and I like that you've put them into writing.

Hey Chris,

I agree with you that perspective and a postive spin and actual action begets results. I will add, however, that sometimes none of that can happen if one's mental space hasn't quite figured this out -- and sometimes no amount of good intentions can bring a person to that space. Sometimes, it's a mysterious process of just being "ready" at a certain point, and I truly think that you can't force that point of readiness. It just arrives one day.

Having said that, I think one gets "there" faster by constant reinforcement through reading and self-reflection. And for me, reading your blog certainly is a solid reminder of the committment and attitude necessary to stay in that positive mental space.

I do find sometimes that there is such a thing as blog overload. While for the most part the blogs affirm my own goals and show me that this whole process is one of constant re-committment, the blog-reading sometimes fuels my own negativity. Then it's just time to take a break and step away for awhile and declare an Internet moratorium for a few days.

I think it is important to take a realistic assesment of your eating patterns. In fact, I think it's great that you realize you need "easy" foods. I think a lot of us are like this, but are somehow guilted into or beguiled by complicated recipes or the idea that "easy" translates somehow into being weak-willed. It is what it is.

I've enjoyed reading your last several posts, as you grapple with some larger, whole-person issues. We are all more than our fitness aspirations, after all.

And now, I'm imagining my stomach as a ziplock baggies. Somehow this is creeping me out...

My car window was broken a week ago (Sunday the 1st), and I think it must have been done between 7 AM and 10 AM. Nobody got in, and there was nothing to take, so it seems like pure nastiness. I'm on 39th between Wallingford & Burke. Rumor has it, another neighbor had their car window broken, too. I did report it to the police, but some operator just takes a report if the damage is less than $500.

This is the first incident I've had in nearly 2 years here, though, and I walk quite a lot after dark and generally feel just fine.

It was very interesting to note that not one of the top 100 brands was a health care company/brand/product or campaign. Do you have any thoughts on why that might be? It seems that either because of a lack of creativity or the legal ramifications of transparency prevents our clients from really stepping out and establishing their brands in the digital arena.

It is hard, no matter the situation. I work 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday; I'm also taking three online classes. By spending my "off time" doing something I enjoy, I honestly don't mind working or doing school work. I also always specify a day as "relax day." Even if it's a work day, I make sure the time I'm not working, I'm relaxing. Whether I take a nap, watch tv, read a book, blog ... it's my "me time."

You're not missing much in Iowa except the greatest school ever and a bunch of meth labs. I visited friends at MSU once and had the pokey sticks there, but they are not as good. I think it's the ranch.

I've actually had the idea to open up a gumby's and/or a pancheros here in NYC. I figure this is the greatest idea ever in the history if ideas.

I can confirm that I have been at the Taco Bell IN Penn Station. There is a bonus Pizza Hut right next to it as well. So next time you go to Jersey or LI, you can grab a personal pan pizza and/or 15 soft tacos.

So I made your twinkie surprise and loved it! Also- I forget the eggs and you'd never know! Like applesauce, squash puree must bind like eggs. Additionally, I replaced the sour cream and water with butter milk and that give the cake lift! Turns out that no one is missing eggs in my house.

I have loved Lily Allen from the start and I also LOVE this album. I think it's even better than the first, but maybe that's because it hasn't been overplayed yet. I was very good friends with Matt, from 6th grade on. We kept in contact, up until a week before this terrible thing happened. My heart goes out to those affected by this, and though Matt was seemingly the sweetest guy I have ever known, none of you knew what he was going through at the time. Therefore, I ask that you save your judgements, though understandably, I know that they will keep coming.

Although I cared about him, I will not try to justify what he did. I believe he is guilty, because of the way he was in the last few months prior to this event. He was not the Matt that some of you say he always was. He had changed dramatically as a person. He knows what he has done, and he will be punished justly.

When I first heard of what he had done, I didn't want to believe it either. But when I found out he came foreward with information, that was the Matthew I knew. In the pictures I see of him, that is the Matthew I remember, remourseful for the actions that led him to where he is today. He deserves what has, and what is coming his way, he took a life, and it affected many as a result.

Sue, many of their parents are coming forward defending their children. Mercades' mom is putting all of the blame on the victim basically saying she started it and deserved what she got. And one of the dads is saying the fights were one on one and not a gang effort and that the media is just making the incident seem worse than it actually was. I don't know if everyone is aware but the original tape is 30 minutes long...yes, they beat that girl for 30 minutes!!! The media only released 1 1/2 mins. and they are pretty minimal apparently compared to what else happened. I mean the video they're showing is the beating after she'd already been knocked unconscious.

What these teenagers did is the most disgusting display of human cruelty I've ever seen. They absolutely should be tried as adults. What they did was planned and you could see the excitement on their faces while they beat that poor girl senseless. The only justice in this is if they were to go to jail for at least a decade and face the kind of violence they carried out on that young girl. An eye for an eye, right? And it sound like Victoria has lost her hearing and also some sight so that saying is so appropriate for this situation. As to the person who said they're innocent until proven guilty, they taped themselves doing it. What more proof do you need? Regardless of what Victoria may have said about them, nothing deserves the kind of brutality that she got. And the one mother who is defending her daughter should be locked up for being a neglectful parent. She doesn't even have custody of her child. My mother loves me but would never defend me if she saw a video of me beating someone until they were unconscious. All 8 of these teens need to pay for what they did.

As a lay(wo)man, I must thank you for this post. My husband's 26 yr old cousin died this past year from a seemingly fatal combination of prescription drugs. While the toxicology reports were technically inconclusive, some of the drugs found in his system are the same as in this list. It's interesting and helpful to have the individual drug interactions parsed out in this way.

I love the bonding time with my sweet baby while wearing her. It allowed me the opportunity to get some mommy things done while at the same time holding my little one. I have thin hair that gets split ends so easily. I wash every other day, and my hair isn't greasy w/this shampoo. This is THE BEST shampoo I've ever used (and I've bought pretty much everthing from all price ranges)!

One little tip. I saw one comment that said it was hard separating the teacher/mother role and they resented that.

Friends of ours homeschooled and every morning, the kids packed their lunch, got ready for school, packed their homework etc and walked out the front door saying, "Goodbye Mom." They walked around to the back door where they entered the schoolroom. From that moment on, they referred to their mother as "Mrs. B____" and they had a very structured schoolday. At the end of their schoolday, they would pack up and walk back to the front door. They'd then enter and say something along the lines of, "Mom, guess what we learned at school today!?" It was their way of seperating school and home and it worked for them. I thought it was a cute idea and would help in the younger years to show the difference between what's home time and school time.

I am a credentialed teacher who loves kids and education. Although I personally do not feel inclined (at this time at least) to homeschool my daughter, I think that public, private or homeschool is a choice that must be made by each family and that there is no absolute right or wrong. No system is perfect as some of the above commenters seem to think. Some types of schooling work great for some and doesn't work well for others.
One thing I learned in teaching is that it's important to reflect. Did the lesson I just taught go well? Do my students need more instruction? Do they get it? That's just as important to do in homeschooling as a regular classroom.

I currently am not in a classroom but am tutoring privately as my little one is at home. Most of the students I work with are homeschooled and just need more guided instruction in one area. (I focus on math but also am teaching one student reading). As you look down the line, if your kids do need private tutoring in any area, it can get expensive. I charge $35/hr typically. It can cost more or less depending on what is being tutored and by whom. This comes more into play during high school as many parents struggle to teach upper-level math and sciences. Ultimately though, the Lord will provide when the time comes.

I like using Saxon math with my students because it reviews what was previously learned and clearly teaches new concepts. I would encourage you to look at Saxon. It's not for everyone but I find it to be a successfull curriculum on building concepts and mastery of math. I've not have a lot of experience with Sonlight but we briefly looked at it in my educational classes and I know many homeschool families who use it. I know it is well put together and has some excellent literature.

Best wishes as you invest in your kiddos education. No one way is perfect. We just have to do the best we can with what the Lord has given to us and pray that He will fill in the holes.

I think that Bristol Palin is a pretty fortunate girl, considering that a) she is in a family that is supportive of her pregnancy and ensuing marriage (which is, in itself, a whole other disastrous story), and b) she had the luxury of "choosing" whether or not to go through with the pregnancy. While I am not the biggest fan of her mom, I have to say that I am hoping that she is treated with dignity as long as she is in the public eye.

There will be a Farmer's Market in Kent on Saturday when you are here. You should make a detour to run past it. Then you can buy delicious blackberries sold by the Amish farmers. Yumm.

I get this all the time! I'm only twenty (almost twenty-one!), but people honestly ask if I'm fourteen. People I work with. I work at a place where you have to be at least eighteen. Duh.

They automatically freak when they find out I'm married ... and I hear the same thing! "You'll love it when you're older."

Though I don't typically blog about it, Husband and I definitely argue. Not a lot (what is "a lot," anyway?), but it happens. Being two different people, it's bound to happen. Arguments can be constructive, though; they can be learning/growing experiences. :)
