in Cops in Wallingford on Wallyhood
My car window was broken a week ago (Sunday the 1st), and I think it must have been done between 7 AM and 10 AM. Nobody got in, and there was nothing to take, so it seems like pure nastiness. I'm on 39th between Wallingford & Burke. Rumor has it, another neighbor had their car window broken, too. I did report it to the police, but some operator just takes a report if the damage is less than $500.
This is the first incident I've had in nearly 2 years here, though, and I walk quite a lot after dark and generally feel just fine.

And, actually (sorry Tweedy & Popp), the Durn Good grocery, now at 40th & Wallingford Ave may take the title for Wallingford's oldest. According to History Link, it opened where Irwin's is now, in 1912.

There's another one out there somewhere, too, which I saw only in the dark one night and couldn't photograph. Would love to know more about this artist!

in OhGizmo! » Archive » A Simple Design For Carrying Coffee on OhGizmo!
Nah, it'd probably be like pizza boxes at pizza places, and also probably cheaper than the fully-formed weird boxed one that places like that already use...
I like the design because with that, it seems like the hot coffee in the two cups wouldn't splatter out the sip holes and burn your hand like it often happens to me when I carry one on my own.

I was going through LCDS and im quite impressed with its simple to use UI. I did find it very similar to another tool i reviewd-Rapidel - its a tool created by Brainvisa. Has anyone looked at RapideL?

I also lost the back battery case cover and am baffled to where I can get another one. The AT&T store has been very little help and I can't find any covers online. Anyone got any info on what to do?

I'm loving this Kanka. And thanks for the linguistic notes: I'm going to wow my Turkish friends with my borrowed street savvy.

I'm seeing your site on a 14'' imac and it looks pretty good. Often I can't access half the content on a site from my antique home machine. Don't worry, I'll complain as soon as I can't see your posts.

Tonight I just learned to use a hype machine and found your site. Very interesting, nicely designed (even on my ancient System 9 Mac) and intriguing music. Cracow Klezmer is stunning, absolutely -- a great discovery, thanks.

in On Kafka’s Metamorphosis on Gerald R. Lucas, Ph.D.
As much as I want to feel sympathetic for Gregor and his new embodiment, I believe the main focus is meant to be on the family's transformations. The father had transformed from a fat, clumsy man to "holding himself very erect, dressed in a tight-fitting blue uniform with gold buttons -- his usually rumpled white hair was combed flat, with a scrupulously exact, gleaming part." And I agree the power has shifted from Gregor to "Mr. Samsa." Grete's transformation involves going from Gregor's main caretaker to seeing him as a "monster" and "constant torture." She is the first to accept the new Gregor and the first to say "it" needs to go. Toward the end, she is no longer seen as a child but a young woman. Throughout his metamorphosis, Gregor, in my opinion, is not treated properly. He helped his family financially and was planning on sending Grete to music school. He had loved them and treated them with respect. When he needed the help, he was treated like a disgrace to the family. For some reason I do not understand, Kafka made Gregor's death lift a burden off the family. The death of Gregor allowed the family to finally be happy.

I am also impressed with your styles of a writer, amigo. The mosque sounds absolutely breathtaking and I hope your camera wasn't damaged by that rapscallion you encountered.

I can see that preparation is one of your strengths . . . I'm sure you could just convince them to let you in the country based on suave demeanor and good looks.

I like that question. I sometimes think of a question I read somewhere: "does this enlarge or diminish me?" I like that one.

Hey, that list sounds neat. Share, if you can.
I think it is important to take a realistic assesment of your eating patterns. In fact, I think it's great that you realize you need "easy" foods. I think a lot of us are like this, but are somehow guilted into or beguiled by complicated recipes or the idea that "easy" translates somehow into being weak-willed. It is what it is.
I've enjoyed reading your last several posts, as you grapple with some larger, whole-person issues. We are all more than our fitness aspirations, after all.
And now, I'm imagining my stomach as a ziplock baggies. Somehow this is creeping me out...
