Wee Web sounds more of use to parents for their social networking really - babies have very little social needs or skills other than with their primary care-givers. It's only when they start moving into the toddler stage that you see social interaction between babies other than competing for resources. Generally, babies play beside each other, while toddlers play together, interactively. That said, I can imagine it being very useful meeting up with other parents & being able to discuss parenting techniques & issues with someone who's as interested & involved in parenting as you are. Regaling your childless friends with anecdotes of your baby's exploits is not going to make you the life & soul of the party. :-)

Personally I don't mind if you do want to talk politics - everyone's entitled to his/her opinion anyway. I find my opinions often coincide with yours where you reveal them though, and everyone likes to hear people agreeing with them. :-)

I like it, but again, Firefox's addons have me hooked. If all the main FF addons get ported to Chrome, I'm sold. I'd need:

My wife & I are going to Rome this weekend. I'm going to be wearing a decent smart pair of jeans, British Army assault boots, a random T-shirt I got from startupshwag.com & my Berghaus waterproof breathable jacket. I'll have my camera, iPod & a paperback in my pockets along with my credit cards (in the inside pocket, zipped up), and the only luggage I'll take is 2 pair of briefs & socks in a drawstring gym bag of the sort Bruce Lee had in "Enter the Dragon" ;-) - *seriously* minimalist. But then, I'm only going for 2.5 days & I want to avoid hassle at check-in & customs.

How is Spotlight the quickest way to launch apps? Have you tried QuickSilver? Much, much quicker.

Twitter's not enough of a distraction for me to merit doing anything much about it - since I use Jaiku, Facebook, Myspace, Pownce, Tumblr etc etc I tend to update them all from http://www.hellotxt.com/ up to a maximum of about 5 times a day & only bother reading other people's tweets, jaikus etc when I get home at the end of the day. You seem to be endlessly twittering most days - you're definitely the most constant twitterer in my follow list - but updating so often kind of defeats the purpose in a way. The idea of microblogging is to save time by limiting the size of posts, but not to be never done with the damned thing :-)

Let's try not to split the vote either - vote for the Tim Ferriss nomination that already has 300+ votes, not the other two.

I'd love to join in, but as it is there's a bug in the current version of Adobe Reader on the Mac that prevents me from downloading the e-Book version of the current edition, and all the bookshops in the UK are currently waiting for the new edition, which I've ordered from Amazon.co.uk (Yeah - I'm *determined* I'm gonna read this book sooner or later!) so the old edition is out of print - or worse yet, when I asked in Borders if they had any of the old editions, carefully spelling out your name & the title of the book, they hadn't even got you in their database!

Both "ladies" and "women" are equally bad given their etymology - woman comes from Anglo-Saxon wifman - wife-man (man in Anglo-Saxon meaning person). Lady comes from hlafdæg, a loaf-maker, essentially the one who cooks. Pretty much any term used to describe people of one sex or the other is going to be essentially sexist whether intended or otherwise since it's describing a set of people by their sex. "Ladies" does however imply a certain class & dignity at least, and consciousness of the concept of being a gentleman.

I kind of think though that Yahoo will become gobbled up & lose its identity in the merger, becoming Just Another MSN Type Service.

Thanks for that, Tim - useful & timely, & I think you may be right about how you label your mood affecting the mood itself. Have you noticed how much the pharmaceutical industry is making off these so-called "disorders" that didn't exist in any medical textbook 30 years ago?

Actually the RIAA are getting people to think more about how they license their content, and what content people will buy based on what license terms apply. I've started looking for non-RIAA affiliated bands to get on my iPod; I'm downloading iTunes Plus tracks rather than DRMed stuff, and just lately I discovered a site that while at the moment there's not a lot there, pretty soon I reckon it'll be a big thing. CASHMusic.org is a site set up by Donita Sparks (ex-L7) and so far features music from Kristin Hersh (ex-Throwing Muses). Donita's expected to publish some of her own stuff there shortly. Basically they're releasing content under a Creative Commons license with the idea that people visiting the site will be able to download, listen to, re-mix, mash-up, cover, re-word, re-arrange, pretty much do what they want with it, as long as any derived content is itself published under the same license. The two tracks Kristin has published there have already spawned 2 dozen derived works, some good, some not-so-good. It's definitely worth a look.

Tim - great idea, but I'm wondering how one might go about extending that. Say you wanted to really spend all year round in a summer sun environment. That might involve travelling south of the equator for longer periods than 2 weeks. I'm based in the UK, so I guess the best wintering destinations for me would be South Africa, Australia, New Zealand or SE Asia. What kind of career choices would facilitate that? Obviously, a writer is pretty well mobile, but I'm a computer support guy with little experience outside IT & programming careerwise. What would you recommend?
