Strange, 'cause I have a big panorama up here. It's not quite that big, but close.

in Top 10 Reasons Not To Buy A Macbook Pro — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
-sigh- Seriously, Elliott, don't you have anything useful to write about?

Granted, the defects such as exploding batteries & whining fans have happened, it's not as if other computer manufacturers produce 100% of their machines defect free.

Specifically:

In response to 2: This is sort of a ridiculous reason not to buy a computer, don't you think?

In response to 3: I would think that the advantages of the Core Duo far outway the few apps that are still being run in Rosetta.

In response to 4: Umm, a lot of things are manufactured in China. I don't see you complaining about your clothes or electronics or pens or .. [the list goes on]

In response to 9: You have to remember that you're not getting another Windows POS though. *That's* the difference. And if you're really concerned about the price, buy a MacBook. You won't find a better laptop for that price.

in Restoration Update — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
So I take back my comment about the empty top space. Apparently there are supposed to be Yahoo ads there that my AdBlock is doing its thing with. Why don't you take out that nasty ad and add a pretty graphic?

I'm not sure how I feel about this new layout. It's nice and clean, that's for sure, but maybe to an extreme degree. No gradients. No subtle shadows. *Nothing*. Can we at least get a pretty graphic in that empty top space?

Sorry to burst the ego bubble, but you're showing up at the *bottom* of the page. You sure you have personalized search off?

Are you storing these results? I feel my privacy is being invaded. Anyway, nice AJAX-y stuff.

BTW, you should take a look at your formatting 'cause your comments link gets all pushed around by the results.

She's right on all accounts, you know. Large images are fine, but that was a little gratuitous. And you're just jealous because my feed reader (on my *gorgeous* PB) is nicer than yours!

On another note, if any Safari users out there would like to switch from the little blue 'RSS' box, you can get an installer package for this standardized feed icon at http://macspecialist.org/

I don't get that comment directed toward me. Care to elaborate? And leave my PB out of this!

in Wordpress v.s. Typo — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
Okay, you're right. I really have no *good* reason to be using it, but thanks for directing a little attention to my tiny corner of the blogosphere.

Typo is built with RoR, and that's kinda fun to me. I think that RoR has some potential to do some cools things (witness things by 37 Signals. I don't run a big blogging network that people actually read ;) I'm allowed to have a little fun.

Besides, if everyone used WP and no one invested time & energy in new things, then WP would get old and crusty and not do new things. Competition breeds innovation, you know?

Don't get me wrong: I used WP for a while, and certainly liked it. WP 2.0 looks very nice. I was unaware that there are plugins for live-search, AJAX comments and such (simply because I didn't really care to look). If I switched back to WP, I'd probably be just as happy as with Typo, maybe more so. Still, I'll stand behind my choice. Why? [shrug] Because it's fun.

in The Latest Rash of Virii — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
In all fairness, if that is all you sent them the first time, that's not much to go on. I work over at the HelpDesk (albeit on the Mac team), and *many* of the people I talk to really don't have any clue what they are doing. If you were to say something to the effect of "I just got this virus. It didn't affect my computer, but you should do something about it." The response would have been much better. CIT is aware of the problem and is working on updating the PureMessage filters to catch the virus. In the mean time, if people don't update their virus definitions (and many people don't), then the virus is going to continue to spread. There is nothing CIT can do about stupid people.

This is the latest variant of Sober (Sober.O) that's been running around CU campus for a few days now. Updated Symantec definitions catch it. Cornell's PureMessage filters should be catching it shortly.

I just want everyone to notice the Mac Classic (think it's a Classic . . ) in the background of the first picture. Even Gates uses Macs!
