This is really weird, for some reason this episode (464, 3/4/9) is not available for purchase on iTunes....

Also Chrome has (IMO) a MAJOR security problem.

Options->Minor Tweaks->Show Saved Passwords.

Christ on a bike... All my passwords completely open and viewable by the world at large?

Firefox has a similar feature but it can at least be locked with a master password. For people who are in home/work environments and don't/can't religiously lock their workstation while leaving their desk this is disaster waiting to happen.

I wouldn't even install Chrome on my office computer, with this feature all of my super-private data is just one password-reset away from being accessed by any of our IT staff.

Chrome's nice, but it's made me realize there are some Firefox extensions (Adblock, Foxmarks, Twitterfox) that I just can't do without.

in Google still has a sense of humor on Scobleizer
I doubt Mozilla are too worried at the moment. Google have a fabulous history of launching products, and a horrible history of actually 1.0-ing them.

in Photoshop and Multicore on Scobleizer
"only the most advanced software engineers can write software for multicores"

It's pretty each to chuck in a couple of extra threads and get a measurable benefit on multiple cores. Getting anything above 1.5x the performance is the hard bit.

Of course, one of the great things about multi-processor/multi-core machines is that even if an application should max out a core then the machine still stays responsive and usable. This alone can be a great productivity benefit.

in Windows Vista blog, form over function on Scobleizer
I totally agree.

However, the design of your site does little to help people easily digest its content either. I find the layout of your page to be 'noisy', with the different elements often blending together. Your sidebar would be a prime example.

There's a middle ground between functionality and pretty pictures. Neither your blog nor Vista's manages to hit it.

in Google Reader: I’m Officially Pissed Off on Climb to the Stars

I publish my Google Reader shared items using FeedBurner. As well as properly sanitizing the code, you can control the appearance and formatting via both the FeedBurner control panel and CSS.

Bangalore,

You can make any folder, or tags public. Go to settings->tags and you toggle whether they're public/private.

Here's my F1 feeds :)

in Not just rich people buy Playstations and Xbox’s on Scobleizer
So am I Robert.

The average American pre-tax wage is around $32k. I'm not going to write out the math, but as a parent yourself I'm sure you can see the hardship in trying to support a family on that sort of annual income (even allowing for a second parent with a full or part-time job).

I would imagine the last thing a family in that situation would want is to blow $600 on a video game system, or even $150 per month on credit repayments.

Anyhow, I enjoy your blog but you really need a dose of reality on this one. $600 is a hell of a lot of money, to a hell of a lot of people.

PS - R.e movie prices; I didn't realise you meant coke and snacks for everyone! I always share with whoever I'm with, I've no idea how anyone manages to finish one of those gigantic cups by themselves!

in I love Google Reader on Scobleizer
I've been using Google Reader for a week now and it's amazing. I can't believe how much quicker it is to get through all my feeds when they're available in a single-view, and then mark themselves as read as they scroll past! I switched from FeedDemon / NewsGator and I'd have a hard time going back.

The only downside is that I made the mistake of first trying it with Internet Explorer (6) since it wouldn't work with Opera. The performance was pretty bad with frequent pauses, usually when it was trying to do something in the background. With Opera and Firefox the performance is vastly better.

$60 for a movie for a family of four? I hope you watch movies with table service and plush leather seats because none of my local cinemas (Santa Monica/Beverley Hills/West LA) are anywhere near as expensive.

Also you neglect to mention the cost of incidentals for the PS3/Blu-ray/HD-DVD. A PS3 game will set you back $60, and a BR/HD-DVD movies, that you can pickup on DVD for about $15, will cost you upwards of $25. That isn't chump-change for a family of four.

Aside from the terrible message contained in your post, the finanically-plush and the financially-irresponsible may be able to pick up a PS3, but those demographics certainly aren't mass-market. I personally think the PS3 is tremendous value given the fact it includes a Blu-ray player, but that's my informed opinion. To the average consumer, and average doesn't describe people looking to spend $10k on HDTV goods, $600 dollars is hideously expensive and more expensive than most of the electronics in their homes.

Price is very much a concern for the PS3. It's silly to suggest otherwise.

PS - The whole tone of your post is quite offensive. In the 'good old US of A' the figures you are talking about are considerable sums of money to the majority of the population. Are you really that out of touch with the level of wealth in your own nation?

in Maryam buying meat on Scobleizer
The sound is just terribly, any words or conversation would be difficult to make out at best. Even if you can make out the words (or don't need to) the annoying background noise would deter me from watching.

So if this is meant to be a "look how easy it is to video blog if you don't need audio" then great, nice demonstration. I don't think there's a big market for such things though :)
