in The Colorado Independent » Ex-Medicare chief criticizes Obama, McCain health care plans on The Colorado Independent
I'm with you on the electronic record collection. While it can be helpful for contraindications on medications, for instance, the lack of security is pretty stunning.

The simplest route to expand health insurance and make care more affordable (for both patient and insurer) is to abandon the disease model of health care and move toward a wellness-prevention schema.

There are far too many monetary incentives that perpetuate the vicious cycle of the multi-trillion dollar illness, treatment, rehab and pharmacology industries.

And, then if one could lick the twin reform killers

Heh. I don't know if your buddies at the GOP convention are going to fare much better.

Last I heard six Senators and the Vice President are washing their hair that week and won't be going to St. Paul.

BTW, did you get selected as a national delegate?

I'm getting worried about the Denver Post editorial board. This isn't simply making endorsements by lawn darts

in Are Coloradans buying the McCain energy spin? on The Colorado Independent
@eluning. Short of a live boy-dead girl scenario for Schaffer or Udall, partisan voters will reflexively vote for their guy. This race will definitely tighten but I have to believe that the lastest Q poll is an outlier. Ten points is too big of a swing without some scandal attached to a candidate.

Plus, it's way too early to make any logical prediction on the outcome of this race. Most voters don't solidify their support until October. We'd have as much success calling this race right now with a Magic 8-ball.

@wildflower. You're right that a lot of folks are pretty confused about what offshore drilling actually does

@thegrunt. It's not a site policy, it's the law.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation Fair Use FAQ is a good source on the subject.

in Early voters smashing records in Douglas, El Paso counties on The Colorado Independent
@pdth. What do you think explains the voter rationale for casting a ballot for Bill Ritter against party lines? How did Ken Salazar or Ref C, which also fared well on the GOP-dominated Eastern Plains, rank in Douglas County?

Ray, thanks so much for joining us today.

This live forum is now closed.

Note to readers: an invitation is also being extended to Tom Kise, the state director for John McCain's presidential campaign, to participate in a live Q&A.; Stay tuned for that announcement.

in Live Q&A with Obama state director Ray Rivera on The Colorado Independent
The Obama campaign nationally and at the state level have definitely taken some cues from Bill Bradley's grassroots presidential bid in 2000 and, of course, Howard Dean's in 2004.

From your perspective how has the Obama campaign improved upon or rejected tactics developed by those presidential grassroots pioneers?

in Denver rids parks of homeless meals; charity says DNC is to blame on The Colorado Independent
It was actually Ronald Reagan who de-funded psychiatric hospitals and long-term care facilities in the mid-1980s. I was a psychiatric social worker back in the day and struggled to find housing and work for chronically mentally ill adults who had been hospitalized for most of their adult lives and had no capacity to live on their own. Many of my former clients were homeless or constantly teetered on the precipice of it.

There was nothing humane about what Reagan did. And we're still dealing with the vestiges of that lack of funding, mental health stigma, an economy that no longer needs an unskilled labor force and criminally-neglectful VA that put thousands of veterans with PTSD out on the streets.

Jeez, since The Google is going to rule our lives eventually anyways I sure wish it would be intuitive and replace the errant comma in a link with a period.

Thanks for the catch.

So, since compulsory union membership is already prohibited by federal law, are you admitting that Amendment 47 is redundant and an unnecessary provision to the Colorado constitution?

in Group assails ex-con petition collectors on The Colorado Independent
Jeebus, once more with feeling...

(1) Federal law prohibits compulsory union membership.
(2) Gov. Ritter's executive order on employee organizing is in no way, shape or form an endorsement of Right-to-work.

Right-to-work proponents, like you, really do your cause a disservice by repeating known inaccuracies. So knock yourself out but I won't allow these untruthful comments to stand unchallenged on The Colorado Independent.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending upon your point of view), assholishness is not legislatable.

So the next time somebody complains that local government meetings are boring and inconsequential, remember the Meads.
