I work for a Wa. school district nearby Auburn. If they have the same success with their lighting automation as ours, then this will create double the jobs listed. First to install the systems, and then to remove them.

i have to say this because i thought of it. sorry. so already you can tell what culture i am not from. 99% of the "nerd-o-sphere" (excepting yours and a select few others) make my usage statistics interesting. and then there is the goodness of spell-checkers. why can't we expand them to function as detectors of crap and mis-capitalised sentences. sorry no "z" here. cheers says it all.

Vacation Bible School is an event held at many churches in the area. A flyer telling where and when one of these events is being held is not going to be considered religious material. If there were no Bible verses or other religious messages on the flyer than there should be no problem handing them out in school. As for opening the door to other religious groups passing out flyers I say " who cares", If I don't believe as they do I would just throw it away. The school must take a stand not to promote a particular religion but they can't stop someones right to free speech. I think the Hudson School District was wrong and they will lose.

Great list, but next time, please put a little bit more effort in a list like this!
This is a fake number:
"Easyroommate has over 190,000 listings in the United States"
Not even Apartments.com or Apartmentsource.com have that much.

in Google Must Save Yahoo from Evil Microsoft on Marketing Pilgrim
I think Google is already a dangerous internet company with it's monopoly and website penalization strategies, merging with Yahoo would be a complete disaster for website owners. Google would then own practically all of web search - they could then kill any website/business they wanted.

in Letter: Town is in need of cash, but is buying sick time? on Andover Townsman
You can't compare a privite bussnes to the town, if someone is sick or out to care for a child in a privete busniss you may be able to cover for them or make due. How are you to do that with the Police and Fire department or even the schools. Are you saying that if a teacher is out the kids should just go home or maybe a policeman or firfighter is out sick should we just not have police and fire for that day???????

in BUDGET ISSUES: Salaries, benefits - the budget behemoths: Slowed growth pushing costs out of reach on Andover Townsman
Silberstein has no clue!! The Towns police and Fire department's are completely under staffed and under paid!! While we teach advanced Chinese in our publice schools and my child needs to wait for an ambulace becuase the closest one needs to come from anther town due to police and Fire understaffing in Andover. Teachers only work an average of 1400hrs a year with every weekend and holiday off not to mention the summer. Police and Firemen work an average of 2500hr a year and are expected to work weekends and Holidays. The average person living in town works 2000hrs a year. So I would say it's not to bad to be a teacher making $75,000 for not even half a years work like the rest of us!!Silberstein also doesn't mention that the sick leave buy back that she put's down for Police and Fire employees saves the town money ! Even I can figure that out by reviewing Andover's web sight one would think that a former finance commity member would realize this. And your wodering why the town's finaces are such a mess!!

mad Why does the town manager contiue to get above average raises and bounses while the town face money problems. Who do you think got us in this mess!!!!!!!! and we're rewarding hi???? we should fire him!!!!!!! and get some one worth the money!!!!
Richard M. Hudak II Dear Concerned,

The last time I checked, an eight hour day and a forty hour week were de jure, if not de rigeur in the USA. At least, this is an expectation. I don't know how many teachers you know, but I don't know any who don't work weekends during the school year.

It is a misunderstanding of the profession of teaching to suggest that teachers only work half a year.

Consider this opinion piece that appeared in the New York Times nearly two years ago <http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/04/opinion/04lut...>. Modify it slightly to account for the fact that the essay addresses college teaching. But then, continue to maintain what you do about the profession, and I challenge you to it. Take a leave of absence from your job and walk in teachers' moccasins for a while, if you have what Parker Palmer calls "the courage to teach."
