With something so beautifully crafted, does the Nano sit off-centre on the front of the unit? That would drive me to distraction, honestly. For $1,000 (yeah, RRP is $999 here in Oz) I'd want an adaptor that allows the iPod to sit square on the front.

You've got that right, Drew. The words "American" and "Wall St" aren't very popular here in Australia at the moment. We have the safest economy and most profitable banking system in the developed world and yet we're being dragged through the mud with you.

The value of our currency has dropped 30%, banks aren't lending and businesses are starting to go belly up. People are losing their jobs and price of fuel has gone to $1.50 a litre (around $6 a gallon for you US people)....

I work for a subsidiary of GE. They are virtually selling everything they own here at fire sale prices and retreating home. Our business is on the trading block now. Not nice. But, then again, there's always tomorrow. :)

My wife would really useone of these. She's got one of those arm strap things for her Classic, and it's pretty bulky. Are they going to make other "models", Wayne?

My one and only Treo was the 750 WM device, which was just OK for the time. It soon went the way of the Dodo's though. The Palm devices just look so, ummm, boring.

Speaking of WiFi on the E71, Mitchell, what maps are you using? Are you paying extra for the Nokia maps, or just using as is?

It's not just AT&T, Judie. It seems to be a worldwide issue - and one that the 2 recent updates were supposed to fix, but didn't. A strong tip is that the 3G chip in the device is defective in a fair percentage of the devices sold.

One of my staff has a Asus laptop that was on it's last legs. I gave him an ultimatum after reading this today. Either let me buy this, and run it over your computer or let me put it out of it's misery.

I ran the Magic Button over it (very cursory first start) and it made an enormous difference. His Asus is now usable. Well done, Doug, and thank you from him! :)

You can make the battery almost last forever, if you just turn off the device altogether. Sorted! :)

My Touch Diamond was my shortest ever owned device. It didn't die... I sold it on eBay within 2 weeks of getting it.

I think it was compounded by the potential the device promised ... and didn't deliver. I was very disappointed with it.

God only knows what the USA will make of it when it hits there. They don't tolerate lag either.

If I'm reading this right, the 16GB iPhones are not available.

Honestly, Wayne, if they were here in Australia the police (and public opinion) would not allow that child to be subjected to that. I'm not a wowser, but it smacks of child abuse to me.

Seems that everyone but us Australians, Kiwis and Italians have been told what they are going to be paying. Funnily enough, Vodafone is the main supplier in each of those markets.

We, of course, are having the iPhone sold to us via Apple itself via the new Flagship Sydney store, Vodafone Australia, Optus, Telstra and possibly these phone company resellers.

We have SO much choice, none of them have released their pricing yet for fear of being the first ones out of the closet!

Yep, that's why I was so surprised to see that "no commitment" option. They would really crack down hard on unlocking if you had to buy a plan with the phone. It wouldn't be viable to on-sell the device then.

Not that it matters here in Oz, but what's a "no-commitment pricing option" Wayne? Like a Pre-Paid option? I thought you could only get an iPhone in the States through a 2 year deal with the devil, er, AT&T?
