Facebook's current design wasn't built for the loads of Facebook applications that now litter most pages. Unfortunately for developers, the app boxes are now on a separate page.

The most active content on Facebook is the wall, and they've integrated it with the newsfeed, which then connects you to other updated content.

The new design is better focused, and will load much faster without having to pull application content.

This phenomenon will explode once mobile phones with GPS (like the new BlackBerry Bold) automatically begin geotagging photos that are taken with them.

PlanetEye.com is an example of a site that is playing towards this trend.

I guess this is the fund that Rick was referring to during the VC Round Table that was being launched May 12.

Rick Segal during his VC Roundtable talks mentioned a new fund launching May 12 from JLA. This is probably what he was hinting at. He also hinted that JLA was looking to make investments in localization applications. So really anything that leveraged geomatics.

Their investment in PlanetEye was a bet on geographical information becoming embedded in EXIF data in photos taken by mobile phones. Guess what, the BlackBerry 9000 has the feature to embed geographical information into the photos taken with the BlackBerry 9000. I'm putting 1 and 1 together here though...

The site is definitely polished and very easy to navigate. Seems to have some really good deals too.

Once you start finding good designers, you'll also find that they're: 1 - Expensive and/or 2 - Booked up.

Anyone could have seen this one coming. Our banking system is no where close to that of the United States. Anyone who's driven through both can quickly realize anyone can open a bank up in the US. In Canada, if you're going to be accepting deposits at that sort of scale, you'll need to be a chartered bank, a trust, a credit union or a caisses populaire. The government has a tight leash on banking in Canada (and thankfully so).

It's becoming clearer that many have built up a defense against installing new applications due to the loads of requests they get on a daily basis for shit application installs. Facebook should carefully take a look at the developers on it and start cutting out most.

Facebook is not the new Windows, OSX, etc. Those platforms took off because of their complexity in a time where making an OS was difficult, and it still is. To say that Facebook is the equivalent is not right, as the complexity behind the application isn't there - hence the whole NASN issue people bring up.

My personal opinion on the Facebook Platform is that it is a great extension to any freestanding Web site where sharing information is at the core business. The platform is not advanced enough yet to create the same experience within Facebook itself.

Through their partnership activities, they'll lend their expertise and technology and in return, they'll have access to the talent and ideas developed in the incubator."

I'd like to see what sort of products are produced through VeloCity. The University of Waterloo has a lot of strong programs, and it would be interesting to see what sort of 'Majors' are mixed into this incubator. One thing that lacks at the UW are business students, where most of their students take business programs from Wilfrid Laurier University (full disclosure, I'm a business student there). I'd like to see if they solely focus on short term 'web-related' activities. With 'Mobile' and 'Media' in the phrase - I doubt there will be much in the way of innovation if they're already given such a narrow focus.

With an endorsement from Apple, for a program in RIM's hometown - the students are going to be torn between the two mobile platforms, or just develop for both.
